As he climbed, he couldn't help but marvel at the noodle's resilience; it was, after all, the premium stuff, not your run-of-the-mill supermarket soba.

And just like that, the noodle snapped, not because of the weight, but because of the sheer audacity of trying to hoard something as communal as noodles.

Down went Kandata, back into the soy sauce pool, as the noodle retracted back into the heavens, leaving behind a scent of wheat and regret. The moral of the story? Never get between a man and his noodles, and more importantly, never underestimate the power of sharing... especially when it comes to Ibo-no-ito. For in the end, it's not just about the climb; it's about the company you share your noodles with.

■横浜トリエンナーレへの批判を読んで（前半）

（文字数制限にかかるようなので、前後に分けて挙げます。）

前置き

第８回横浜トリエンナーレ「野草：いま、ここで生きてる」がこの土日で終わります。私も見に行って、なかなか面白く思いました。ところが友人によると、SNSでは批判の声が多いそうですね。あまりそういうものは見ないようにしているのですが、友人がその場で例を見せてくれたので、ついいくつか読んでしまいました。そのときの感想は、ひとことで言うと「批判者の言うことにもわかる点はある。でもキュレーターはそれなりによくやっていたと思うし、今回が最悪だとか、他の回に比べてどんどん悪くなっているとか、そんな気はしない」ということでした。そこで友人といろいろのことを話し合ったのですが、今はそれを思い出しながらこの文を書いています。

今回の展覧会には魯迅の『野草』という短編集が深く関わっていますが、魯迅は「おおむね、折にふれてのささやかな感想を述べたに過ぎない」と述懐しています（岩波文庫、竹内好訳『野草』の解説）。魯迅の感想が短編集『野草』を生み、『野草』がこの展覧会を生み、この展覧会が人々の感想を生み、そしてその感想がこの感想を生みました。もしこの感想を読む人がまた新たな感想をもつならば、それで満足です。

人は物事に触れて感想を持つものだと思います。SNSの批判の中にも、「これは感想にすぎない」というような留保をつけるものがありました。感想は自由にあるべきと思います。そして、感想を読んだ感想というものも自由にあるべきでしょう。今はくだんの批判を読み直さず、またあまり調べものもせずに書いていますが、不十分なところはどうぞ悪しからずご理解ください。これは「論」ではなく、「感想」のつもりです。

『野草』と「文の国」

今回の展覧会の特徴は、「作品」と「意味」のバランスを探る点にありました。多くの作品は、ただ「見て楽しむ」ものではなく、「意味を考える」ことが求められるものでした。そのバランスがキュレーターの側でうまく作れているか、そして鑑賞者がそれをどのように読み解くかがカギになっていたと思います。

今回のテーマは「野草」というのですが、その裏には魯迅の『野草』という著作が密接しています。これは展覧会中にも幾度となく示されており、魯迅の『野草』の本も展示してありました。この本は「二十四篇の短文から成る」ものですが、「スタイルはまちまちであって、詩あり、散文あり、また即物的なもの、追憶的なもの、観念的なもの、象徴的なもの、風刺的なものなどが入り混り、内容形式ともに多傾向」なものとなっています（岩波文庫、竹内好訳『野草』の解説）。この本は意味があるようで意味がない、意味がないようで意味がある、詩のような文のような、芸術のような政治のような、一種独特の雰囲気をもった作品集です。

これを読んでから展覧会を見渡すと、「キュレーターたちは横浜美術館を一冊の現代版『野草』にしようとしていたのではないか」ということに思い至ります。

そう考えると少し納得できる点もあります。それは「文」への偏重です。友人は次のように話していました。「私は今まで、展覧会は作品を見ればよいと思っていた。作品を見ずに解説ばかり読む人があれば、本末転倒だと考えていた。つまり、言葉を軽視していたのだ。ところが、今回の展覧会では作品の多くに意味があり、その意味もキュレーターの解説を読んで初めてわかるようなものが多かった。入口にはタブレットの文章が並べられ、その左側の階段の上には本を並べた一角もあった。さらには猟師へのインタビューがあったり、詩が作品として出ていたりと、言葉への重視が目立った。」

しかし、これは考えてみればさほど奇妙なことではありません。ふつう、広く「芸術」 (art) と言うときには「文学」を含みますし、「美術」 (fine art) というときでも「詩」を含むことがあります。「芸術」は「造形芸術」に限られたものではありません。もちろん、ただの書籍や文章が「芸術」と言えるのかどうかは議論の余地がありえますが、言葉と芸術の距離がそう遠いものでないことは確かです。

さらにテーマの「野草」が魯迅の『野草』に由来するものであることを考えると、今回の展覧会の裏地には文学がぴったりと張り付いているような気がしてきます。キュレーターが中国の出身であるということから、なんとなく心のなかに「文の国」という言葉が浮かんできました。三千年の歴史をもち、科挙の試験にも詩が課され、書という芸術をいだき、詩文や文字が芸術でないなどと疑ったことのない文化の国のイメージとともに。

作品との対話

いっぽう、日本で一般に「芸術」というとき、それは詩文を容れえないほど偏狭なものなのでしょうか？　批判の中には「文」への偏重に対する疑問もあったように思います。そのような人々にとっては、あたかも展覧会から「あなたの思う芸術とは何ですか？」という問いが投げかけられたような恰好になっているわけです。

では、「芸術（アート）」とは何でしょう。批判する人たちの中には、自分にとって「美しくない」「面白くない」から「芸術（アート）ではない」と断じたい人もいるようです。でも、現代アートは「美」への問いかけを含むものではないでしょうか。デュシャンの「泉」などはまさにその代表だと思います。また、「芸術」における「言葉」といえば、シュルレアリスムと詩の関係だとか、20世紀初頭の芸術家たちがしちくどい宣言を次々と打ち出したりだとか、いろいろと思い当たることはあるはずです。そういうところに「美しいものが芸術なのか？」とか「言語表現は芸術と無関係か？」といった問題はゴロゴロと転がっているわけで、簡単に「これは芸術だ」「これは芸術じゃない」と判断できるはずはありません。その人たちの考える「芸術」は、どのくらいの狭さなのでしょうか。

鑑賞者は芸術に触れるとき、常に戸惑い、「作品の受容」ができない事態に直面する可能性をもっています。そのような時こそ、自分の中にある固定観念を見直す機会かもしれません。今回、批判したくなった人が多かったということは、それだけ作品からの「問い」を受けた人が多かったということでもあります。そうなると鑑賞者は、やっかいなことですが、自分の回答を練らなければならなくなります。批判もひとつの回答ですし、その回答に満足せず、さらに新たな回答を考えてもよいわけです。陳腐な言い方ですが、「作品との対話」が必要な展覧会であったと言えるのでしょう。

友人はまたこうも言っていました。「かつては『現代芸術は抽象的すぎて何が描いてあるかわからない』という時代があり、その後に『現代芸術は難しくない、何も考えずに作品を面白がろう』という時代が来て、それはひとむかし前まであった。でも、それが終焉すべきときに来たということかもしれない。今は言葉の時代なのでしょう。考えずして何が現代の芸術か、ということになっている。地味でつまらなかったといった批判もあるようだが、休日にちょっと芸術に触れてみよう、子どもを芸術に触れさせてみよう、デートで美術館に行ってみよう、特に『何も考えずにただ作品を面白がろう』と期待した人にはつまらなかったかもしれない。」

たしかに、昔からの（または昔ふうの考えをもった）現代芸術の鑑賞者の中には、「芸術とは面白がるもの」という考えから抜け出せず、新しい潮流に戸惑う人がいるかもしれません。「金を払って楽しみに来た」という手合いには、気の毒だったと言えるでしょう。しかも来訪者への間口は大きく広げられていたので、そのようなミスマッチを生むしかけは念入りに準備されていたともいえます。今回は横浜美術館の改装後の久々の展覧会であり、規模も大きく、宣伝もあって、多くの人を誘い込む要素がありました。そのような場で横浜美術館は「人を面白がらせる」展示をすることもできたはずです。しかし、実際には「人を戸惑わせる」展示を行いました。だからがっかりした人も多かったのでしょう。

私も「キラキラ」な楽しい芸術が好きです。だからそういうものが多いと嬉しいし、その逆ならばがっかりします。しかし、美術館の目的には「レクリエーション」もありますが、決して「レクリエーション」だけを目的とした施設ではありません。今回、美術館はこのような大規模の展覧会で、作品との「出会い」と作品からの「問いかけ」を提供し、人々を「戸惑わせ」てくれました。その意味で、美術館はよくやったと思うのです。「キラキラ」な楽しい回があってもよいし、「地味」な考える回があってもよい。美術展はそういうものだと思います。

過去のトリエンナーレ

ここで、ちょっと過去のトリエンナーレを振り返りたいと思います。

私が初めてヨコハマトリエンナーレに訪れたのは2011年の第4回「OUR MAGIC HOUR ――世界はどこまで知ることができるか？――」でした。この年は東日本大震災の年で、印象としてはとにかくキラキラと輝くような回であったということです。震災後の混乱をアートがどう扱うか、芸術家の間でもまだ折り合いがつかずに、ただ思いつく限りのことをやってみたといった印象で、宝箱の中の宝石をぶちまけて転がしてあるような、たいへん魅力のある回でした。私にとってこの回は「よい」の標準になっています。

2014年の第5回「華氏451の芸術：世界の中心には忘却の海がある」もたいへん期待したのですが、この回は言ってみれば「地味」な印象で、まだ青かった私は「ハズレ」だと感じました。しかし、友人はこの回も面白かったと言っています。この回は「忘却」がテーマで、戦争中に作家や芸術家がいかに体制側に立ってはたらき、戦後その責任もとらず、反省もせずに「忘却」したかということを、当時かれらが執筆した文章を並べて示していました。このころには震災後の政権交代や脱原発などの流れの中で、世の中を動かすのは「政治」であるという意識が出てきていたためかもしれません。

2017年の第6回「島と星座とガラパゴス」は、博物館の表に救命ボートがびっしりと張り付けられていました。「ネトウヨ」に関する展示もひとつふたつあったことを覚えていますが、これもきわめて「政治的」でした。長期化する安倍政権のさなかにあって、政治の右傾化が懸念されていたことも影響していたのでしょうか。（「政治性」の話は、後で少し触れたいと思います。）

2020年の第7回「AFTERGLOW――光の破片をつかまえる」は久々の「当たり年」でした。2011年に次ぐキラキラの再来です。入口から光り輝くカラスよけのCDのような装飾、メビウスの輪のような形をした光り輝く金属の骨組み、巨大な腸を模した造形、赤いカーペットをひいたでこぼこの「道」、映像作品「遅れてきた弟子」、そのほかここでは言い尽くせないもろもろの楽しい展示の連続。

きっと第7回が初めてのヨコトリ体験であった方々は、2011年の私が次回に期待したように、第8回にも「キラキラ」を期待したかもしれません。しかし、べつに横浜トリエンナーレは「キラキラ展」ではないので、地味な回もあるのです。その意味で言えば今回はやや地味だったかもしれません。しかし「地味」には「地味」なりの「味」があるものです。今回はその意味で「ふつう」と「よい」の間くらいと感じました。決して「悪い」ではなかったと思います。

いわゆる「政治性」

今回の展覧会が悪かったという人の中には、展示が「政治的」だという人もいたようです。もちろん、芸術が政治的であることの何が問題なのかとか、政治が生活と密接なものである以上は程度の差こそあれ政治的でないものなどありうるのかといった疑問も出てきますが、今回の展覧会を見て私が感じたのは、むしろいわゆる「政治性」の薄い部分があることでした。キュレーターが中国出身の方ということなので、もしや特に日本のために配慮（手加減）したのではないかという疑いさえ感じました。

たしかに、今回の展覧会ではヨーロッパの戦争に関連する展示や国粋主義者の移民反対デモの映像が展示されていました。それがひとっところに固めてあるのではなく散らばしてあったのは、この会場をひとつの世界に見立てて、このような出来事が遍在していることを忘れてはいけないと示したようにも見えます。

そのデモの映像のひとつを見ているときでしたが、後ろを通りかかった人が「ヨーロッパ、壊れてんな」とつぶやきました。まことに然り！　だがそれを言えば日本だって「壊れて」いるのです。日本でも人種差別のデモが行われています。ヘイトクライムの危険もあります。「人種差別」がわたくしたちの身近にあることは、ネットを少し覗いてみればすぐわかることです。

思い返せば2014年や2017年はかなり「政治的」な展示があったと思います。しかし今回、キュレーターは日本の問題をひとつも指摘しませんでした。日本で美術展が国粋主義的主張をもった人々の抗議で中止に追い込まれた事件もそう遠い昔のことではありません。日本は美術の表現が自由にできない国です。キュレーターたちは日本に気をつかってくれたのでしょうか？　それとも日本で波風を立てて攻撃されることを恐れたのでしょうか？　それとも今の世界を広く見たときにもっとも新しくもっとも重い問題にしぼってとりあげようと考えたのでしょうか？　それは知るよしもありません。もっとも自由な表現への危機は（またすこし違った形で）キュレーターたちの出身地である中国にもあることでしょう。展覧会中に示されたように、ヨーロッパも安全ではありません。世界じゅうで似た現状があります。

しかし、日本が名指しで批判されなかったからと言って、日本が許されたわけではもちろんなく、これらの作品のなかに普遍性を見出し、これを「鏡」として日本の現状を見ることが求められているのだと思います。それらの作品が見るに堪えない現状を示しているとき、それに怒っても意味がないでしょう。それは鏡をヒョイと覗き込んでみて、「ああ醜い！　私の美学に反する。美はいったいどこにある？」と怒るようなものです。

ところで、批判者の中には展覧会のこのような政治的な「傾倒」や「変質」がここ10年や20年の変化だと振り返る人もいますが、私には展覧会のなかにその説明があったように思われます。今回の展覧会は、これも魯迅の『野草』をテーマとしているためかもしれませんが、歴史を強調するものが多くあり、あるところでは史料紹介の様相すら呈していました。木版画をめぐる日中交流史の展示では、魯迅が木版画という簡易で複製可能な芸術を通じて、民衆に文化を届けようとしていたことが紹介されていました。これは「芸術」が一部の特権階級のものではなく、民衆のためのものであるべきではないのかという問題を、当時から現代に向けて投げかけなおした一面もあると言えるでしょう。また、皇国史観へのアンチテーゼとしての縄文土器や、学生紛争を撮影した写真が展示されていたのは、芸術と政治の問題が降って湧いたものではなく、日本でも半世紀以上にわたって連綿と続いている問題であることを示していたと思います。

前回のまとめ

前回の記事では日米における画像生成AIの使われ方の違いを説明しました。

雑にまとめると以下です

日本人は萌え絵を生成させている一方、アメリカ人はフェイク写真を生成させている。

今回はAI ポルノの話

元の投稿は (r/TwoXChromosomes)になされたものです。　

内容はインスタグラムの写真を使われてポルノ画像を作られてしまったという話です。調べてみると友人、知人に ~~LoRAされた~~ AI ポルノを生成されたという被害はそこそこ稀にあるトラブルのようです。今回炎上しているのは警察が対応してくれないということについてです。以下翻訳：

日米の法律の違い

AI 画像生成自体は罪になりません。上記のやりとりではインスタグラムの写真を勝手に学習に使われたということで、著作権侵害として対処しようとしています。

ただし日米で法律が異なるのに注意です。

日本ではどうでしょうね？

日本ではよく知られたように著作物のAI 使用は広く認められています。ただし

第三十条の四　
著作物は、次に掲げる場合その他の当該著作物に表現された思想又は感情を自ら享受し又は他人に享受させることを目的としない場合には、その必要と認められる限度において、いずれの方法によるかを問わず、利用することができる。ただし、当該著作物の種類及び用途並びに当該利用の態様に照らし著作権者の利益を不当に害することとなる場合は、この限りでない。

とあります。『著作権者の利益を不当に害することとなる場合』に該当すると良いのですが。そうじゃないと困る。

また、プライバシーの侵害という観点から見れば「宴のあと事件」「石に泳ぐ魚事件」などの判例をみるに民事で訴えることは可能なように思えますね。

さらにいえば、もともと日本ではポルノの扱いが厳しくてポルノ画像を公共の場に送信するのは禁止されています（猥褻物頒布罪）

なので上で話題になっている男は日本なら刑事罰で捕まるはずです。

こんなわけで、アメリカで起こっている問題がそのまま日本ですぐさま問題になるわけではありません。

日本における表現規制の厳しさに救われたようなちょっと不思議な状況ですね

萌え絵が女性を救う？

あくまで現状においてですが、LoRAによるAI ポルノ被害は日本では全然耳にしません。

だって日本人は萌え絵を生成させているんですもの

アメリカ人はフォトリアルなポルノを作るのに対し、日本人は萌え絵を作る。

萌え絵のおかげで日本人女性はあまり被害に遭わないというちょっと不思議なおはなし。　

もちろんこれはあくまで傾向です。例外はありますよ。アメリカ人にも萌え絵を生成する萌えオタはいます。また、古くはグラビアアイドルでコラ画像を作る日本人もいました。

ここで重要なのは数の問題です。

昔はコラ画像を作る技術を持った人たちはごく一握りだったのに対し、技術を持たないアホが画像生成AIを手にしてしまったということが数々の問題を引き起こしています。

アメリカでは大量のアホがフォトリアルなエロ画像を生成しているせいで出てくる問題なわけです　　

逆に言い換えれば、日本にも~~知人でLoRAする~~知人の写真で追加学習させるアホが探せばいるかもしれないけれど数が少なすぎて表面化しないということですね

最後に

念のためAI 画像生成絵師さん達の名誉のために書いておきますが、Pixiv等でルールを守って投稿されている方々は何のトラブルも起こしていません。生成している絵もこだわりが込められていて、使う道具が違うだけで愛があるのだと感じます。まともな人ほど静かで目に入らない、問題のあるやつほど悪目立ちするというのが話がこじれる原因ですね

一連の記事は絵師とAI 絵師の対立を煽るものではないことを強調しておきます。（いちおう私は絵師の立場です）

lightgbmで足りるレベルのAIやpretrained modelのfine tuning レベルのことはできるけど。AIっていうより機械学習っていう感じでワクワクできないんだよな。chatgptとか最近の画像、動画、音楽生成はすごいって思うけどそれ未満だとすごいって思えない。機械学習は今までも人間が苦手なことをできたけど、最近のは人間が得意なことを下手な人間より上手くできる

so sugoi or did you know Japan is

actually really bad it's got a lot of

survival issues okay I will list one

good thing and bad thing and I will not

hold back there's no trash bins

where I'm gonna put my trash

I have to put in my pocket

there's always these generic things that

you hear or yes when we you vis it it's

kind of weird but then you realize it's

not a big deal anyway let's start off

with number one reason I like Japan

it feels like a giant playground no I

don't mean in the Logan Paul kind of

sense of doing whatever the hell you

want

but rather there's a infinite things all

right lazy feels like to explore and

experience and I've been here a year now

and I don't think I'm gonna get bored

any time soon although I am having a

child so I don't know how much more I

have time to experience

but it really feels like a who le new

world and if you vis ited you can

probably relate to it and I'm glad that

even a year in it still feels incredibly

fresh and I even would say that you

realize that the best part of Japan

aren't the touristy places kind of

obviously but there are so many areas

that I found that I really enjoy

vis iting and this is probably more

specific to me but you know Tokyo is

very busy and so many times I just catch

myself surrounded by what feels like

hundreds of people and they have no idea

who I am

every one is just doing their own thing

and that feels so [ __ ] good

now once it was staring at me no one's

following me no one's being weird you

guys are weird and I'm just kidding I

just love the feeling of being able to

exist in public and uh not worrying

about what every one else is doing like

I've said this before but I genuinely

enjoy talking to fans or when people

approach me it always makes me happy but

it can be kind of frustrating to always

wanting to just do your own thing and

always be

you know so yeah let's move on to the

bad things of Japan number one reason

Japan is bad it's kind of a heavy

subject and I haven't seen any one else

really talk about it it's not brought up

very often at le ast and that is cones

there's too many cones in Japan once you

see it you cannot unsee it they're

everywhere they say oh Japan has so many

vending machines there's like five per

one person no the opposite

there's more cones than people why are

there so many cones I need to know we

got the tall ones we got the small ones

we got the funny ones the cute ones the

sexy ones I do like those I just don't

understand that whoever plays these

cones think I'm just gonna barge through

oh thank God there's cones here

otherwise I had no idea what I was gonna

and I realized the cone history of Japan

stretches centuries okay if you played

Animal Crossing sometimes it's a

Japanese game so sometimes you get these

items right you're like oh that's kind

of weird I don't know exactly what that

is but it's probably something Japanese

and then you get the bamboo thing and

you're like what the hell is that what

am I even gonna do with that and then

you see it in real life here in Japan

you're like holy [ __ ] it's a cone that's

a cone they're everywhere

I feel like they are following me

I'm glad I was able to talk about this

I'm for one and willing to call out

Japan knock it off man no more cones

there's enough cones let me tell you

something even better than cones you may

I like Japan yay when we first announced

that we were gonna move to Japan there

was so many people just saying how bad

Japan is actually did you know Japan is

really bad did you know this I have to

list all these reasons now because

every one is like thing and then thing

Japan ah so I have to tell them and I

it's actually but one thing in

particular that people said was that old

people really don't like foreigners they

hate them so when I was gonna stop by to

say hi to our neighbors who was a little

older at le ast some of them I was

terrifying I heard all these stories you

know like what are they gonna do to us

so I had my guard up ready for the worst

and I was met with nothing but kindness

and welcoming and I felt like a total

dick for having this preconceived ideas

thanks to other people

and just a side comment like yes there

are definitely probably people that

don't like foreigners and a ll that stuff

but I realized I should let my own

experience is dictate how I feel about

certain things maybe that's just

ignoring a problem I don't know it just

feels like it's a bad way to approach

life if you always have a negative

expect ation you know it's smiling people

that's okay you know anyway my point

being Japanese people are very in my own

experience

are very nice and friendly the majority

at le ast and yes even to foreigners I

feel like they are especially nice to

foreigners because they think we're like

a kid lost at Disneyland or something

I just asked for directions I didn't

need you to walk me for half an hour to

this specific place I was going but

thank you I appreciate it a lot of times

I go bouldering alone and there's always

other groups of people being supportive

and yelling like I'm about there like go

you can do it I love it I think it's

great you know or if you're small

talking with people people generally

want to communic ate with you and I love

having those moments but of course

there's times where people are like oh

you're a foreigner I don't feel like

even trying

which again it's fine speaking of which

reason I don't like Japan number two

their language

I have lived here for a year and I'm not

fluent in Japanese

I am dumb I am very dumb I remember the

moment we moved here I had studied some

Japanese and I was like

Let's test out this know ledge that I

have acquired let's go I'm just gonna

come in it's gonna be dangerous and you

enter a store for the first time and

they're like

what

what oh

what the class ic the most common

experiences that you have aren't

necessarily what you're taught in the

textbook yay I know I think that's the

same for any one learning a language for

the first time but don't even get me

started on the kanji main what the [ __ ]

is this I feel like Japanese is such a

hard language obviously but I don't

think people realize how hard it is at

le ast me person ally because the more you

learn the more you realize you don't

know [ __ ]

for English speakers Japanese is

considered one of the most difficult

languages and because it's just so

different I listed it as bad because

that was my first kind of experience

with it coming here but the more I

interact with people the more it feels

like I'm unlocking new skills you know

oh I made a phone call for the first

time oh I could ask someone over the

phone I know big deal but it's like oh I

can actually do that or even just having

a small tiny yes shittiest conversation

with a stranger it's still something and

it feels good you start to all of a

sudden understand you know a movie if

you're watching oh I understand a ctually

what's going on here or I can play games

and kind of get what this they're saying

I have to look up words obviously but to

me all those new experiences that it

unlocks to me is very rewarding even

though it's such a challenge I would

actually now say it's a good thing I

played it on its head it was a good

thing all along but I obviously have a

long [ __ ] way to go

and it just I don't think it will damage

time reason number three I like Japan

this is nothing to do with Japan to say

it's more related to me taking a more

relaxed approach to YouTube for my

entire 20s I did nothing but YouTube

that was my life and that's okay but I

also think it was a little toxic

probably you know if I wasn't making

videos I sure as hell was thinking about

making videos I uploaded videos during

our honeymoon

and it feels really good to finally be

free from it you know and I can discover

other things in life there are other

things in life

a new hobbies and interest that I've

always wanted to do I can do and have so

much fun with it surfing I know I would

love for the longest time and I finally

get to do it and it's so [ __ ] amazing

I love learning new things anything that

isn't necessarily connected to all of

this on the internet and that is

something I'm very very grateful that I

discovered so yeah it's not really Japan

I could have done that anywhere but it's

largely why I enjoyed so much here

reason I don't like Japan number three

this is probably the most trickiest one

and it's the rules what are the rules

Japan has so many rules and it's a bit

conflicting for me to complain about

because a lot of the best stuff about

Japan not the best stuff but a lot of

the reasons why Japan works so well is

because of the rules you know the trains

are always on time things just work in

general it's hard to explain the streets

are clean people aren't loud in public

and so on and these are sort of societal

rules that make it happen more or less

but sometimes There are rules that just

don't make any sense and I have no

problem following rules as long as I

understand the reason for it you know

don't talk on the phone on the train

because it's generally annoying when

other people do that to you A lot of it

is just be thoughtful of other people

it's not just about you and that just

makes it more ple asant for every one but

one rule is especially which I talked

about before is the fa ct that because of

kovid I'm not allowed to be in the

delivery room for our baby for more than

two hours that's because of covered

rules it just doesn't make sense to me

and I tell people about this like uh

family and friends and they're always

like well why don't you just ask them or

like why don't you talk to them I'm sure

you can there's got to be somewhere and

it's like no it's Japan okay there are

rules and people follow the rules for

better or worse you know so the more I
