進学・就職で実家を離れるまでは似たようなエリアで暮らしていたので特に心配していなかったが、違う路線での長距離の電車通勤はこれまで経験がないので実際やってみるとどうなのだろうという不安はあった。 結論から言うと通勤含めて概ね予想通りではあったのだが、いくつかの観点での感想を書いていく。
都内で高級マンションに住む事に比べてどうなのかは知らない（まあ負けるだろう）が、少なくとも都内に安い家賃で無理して暮らしていた頃に比べると快適である。
そもそもこのあたりは建築規制があってマンションが少ないのだが、賃貸でも庭付きの家に住める。眺めていると煙突のある家がちらほらある。夢のマイホームに薪ストーブや暖炉を備えた家たちだ。
騒音だけじゃないが、マンションは左右上下の住人を選べないので、地雷に当たってノイローゼになりそうになったことがある。
蚊、クモ、蛾のような不快害虫はもちろん、立地によってはゲジゲジやムカデ、ハチなども現れる。しかし野鳥も多いし、カニも取れるし、魚も釣れるし、自然の多い環境を求めてきたので望むところである。ビデオ会議中にウグイスのリアル鳴き声を何かのアラーム音と勘違いされたことがある。
海と山が近いせいか、夏は都心に比べれば全然涼しく、就寝時にエアコンを使うことはまれ。冬はそれほど違うとは思わないが、それでもやはり多少温暖で、東京で雪が積もっても、こちらでは積もらないことが多い。
ウインドサーフィン、スタンドアップパドル、カヤックなどが盛ん。サーフィンは普段は波がないので向いてないが、台風や大きな低気圧が過ぎた後は、会社をさぼって波とたわむれる人たちが現れる。マリンスポーツしなくても、砂浜を散歩するだけでも楽しい。夕焼けの富士山と江ノ島がきれい。
三浦半島は自転車半島宣言というものをしているせいか、週末はロードがたくさん来る（道は狭いところが多いけど）
個人的にも家族としても商業施設を娯楽として求めたい気持ちがないのでそんなに困らないが、ショッピングを娯楽と考えると、横須賀か横浜あたりに出る必要がある。自分はイオンなどないほうが嬉しい。ハリウッドや日本の娯楽映画は見れないが、ミニシアターがあって通好みの作品を上映しているのは、近隣の自治体にはない楽しみ。
水族館：八景島シーパラダイス（遊園地併設）、新江ノ島水族館、油壺マリンパーク
動物園：金沢動物園、（少し離れるが）野毛山動物園、市内の披露山公園にはニホンザルやその他小動物が飼われている
当然ながら利便性では都内には敵わないが、意外とそこまで不便ではない。
逗子駅は湘南新宿ラインの始発で確実に座れる。通常の横須賀線も車両の増結があるし、そもそも東海道線ほど混んでないので座れる確率が高い。京急線の逗子・葉山駅も始発。座れてしまえば今はスマホという便利なものがあるので、長距離通勤もそこまで苦痛ではない。新型コロナのせいで通勤がなくなったら、通勤時に読んでいた本やマンガなどが溜まってしまった。JRと京急、二路線使えるので、事故でどちらかが動かない場合でも振替輸送で帰ってこれる。
さらにいうと、羽田空港も成田空港も乗り換えなしで直結している。（成田行くなら、乗り換えてNEX乗るけど）
東京からの終電は意外と早くない。むしろ山手線内に住んでいたときは、インバウンドの地下鉄は遅くまでやっていないので、油断して終電を逃しタクシーを使わざるを得ないことがしばしあった。距離を理由に二次会、三次会と付きあわなくていいのも、人によってはメリットだろう。
JR横須賀線の逗子行き最終列車は品川駅23:59発で、山手線の恵比寿駅でも23:49発の電車に乗れば間に合う。使ったことはないが、いざというときには新橋0:40、品川0:55発の深夜バスというのもある。
チェーン店が少ない一方、美味しくて個性的な店がたくさんあるので、食は充実している。スーパーはEveryday Low Priceのオーケーストア、創業118周年のスズキヤなどがあり、日常生活の食料品やちょっとこだわりの調味料、消耗品の買い物には困らない。当初ホームセンターがないのが不便と思ったが、地元の金物屋と後はMonotaROなどのネット通販で間に合ってる。
Uber Eats や Prime Now はないけど、新型コロナ下の状況に対応すべくズーバーイーツなんていう地元のサービスが出てくるのが、都心にはない楽しみ。
