数年前結婚して、ありがたいことに今年に入って身籠ることもできて、、という矢先に旦那の母が癌になった。体調不良で受診、検査したら偶然見つかったらしい。偶然見つかって良かったというわけではなく、旦那の話を聞く限りでは結構進んでいそうとのこと。そりゃ体に不調が出てるんだから初期段階じゃないよな。
血が繋がって無いとはいえ、私の第二の母であり、ショックだった。半分部外者のような私が首を突っ込んでいいか迷いつつ、旦那と一緒に病院へ同行。
検査結果を説明されながら、「癌って言葉が出てこないけど、もしや癌では無い？」と思っていたら、その後の入院時書類にしっかりと○○癌と書かれていた。
入院する義母を病棟で見送り、旦那と2人で病院付近のご飯屋さんへ。
「いやー、まさかねー、熱出たと思ったら癌かー。」と冷静を装っていた旦那だけど、帰宅してしばらくしたら実感が湧いてきたのか、急に泣き出した。
こういう時に気の利く一言も言えずにすまんなと思いながら、背中をさする事しかできなかった。
これからの検査で細かいことは決まっていくんだろうけど、医者の口ぶりからして軽いものではないことと、癌の5年後生存確率を見ると気分が落ち込む。
普段は母の文句しか言わない旦那だけど、物心もつかないうちに父親と死別して母子家庭で育っているので、そりゃあショックだろうなと。
今の所それほど困るような悪阻もなく、能天気にこのまま出産するのかーと思っていた矢先だったので、どうしたものか。
そんな時、TVerで夜明けのラヴィットを見ていたら木曜日の振り返りで、父を亡くした男性からのおたよりが読まれていた。あの時父と一緒に笑いながら見た嶋佐OASISにlive foreverを演奏してほしいという内容だ。
名のあるハガキ職人では？と思うほど、おたよりの文章が構成に優れていて、泣いてしまった。少し違うが旦那のことも重ねて泣いた。
おたよりの男性と同じく自分もニューヨークが好きだ。カッコつけることなく、いつも自然体のコンビで。できすぎているくらい感動するおたよりに対しても、背伸びして良いコメントを出そうとする気もないところが良かった。本人達はできないだけというかもしれないが。
演奏後も、「めっちゃ歌わさせてもらいました」という嶋佐に、「なんかまたスタジオがひとつになってたな」とコメントしてやや滑りする屋敷。
最高だった。
嶋佐がただやりたくてやったoasisの真似が、周りの演者を泣かせて感動させて、そして苦しみの底にいる人間のよすがになる。
普段から、感動とは程遠いことしか言わないニューヨークに、励まされてるファンがいるんだなと改めて思い知らされたラヴィットだった。

この歌には結構いろいろな受け取り方があって、そのなかに親友が自殺を思いとどまってくれた歌、というものがあるので、そんな感じで訳してみた。
そう考えると、歌詞が変化してる部分が具体的につながる気がする。
あとタイトルの「ワンダーウォール」という謎の言葉は何かというと、ビートルズのジョージ・ハリスン（当然のことながらギャラガー兄弟が崇拝してる）が曲で参加したマイナー映画のタイトルだそうで。
中年の主人公が隣の部屋の大学生かなにかに憧れて、それを壁越しに（？）眺める映画らしい。
「壁」こそが自分を救ってくれるという（普通は逆の意味でつかう）不思議な言葉だと思っていたら、
大変ガックリくる答えなのでした。

このリストは深夜テンションで暗い部屋のなか音楽聴いてひとりニヤニヤしながらスマホでポチポチ入力してたんですが、今考えたらSpotifyのプレイリストを公開してURL貼付け…はユーザー名見えちゃって嫌なんで、Google Sheetsにコピペしてウェブに公開すれば良かったですね。深夜テンション怖あ。
一旦コピペしちゃえば後はZapierとかで公開したリストの更新も自動化できそうです。他のサブスクとの統合もできそうですね。
