有名なやつ（GOTとか……あれもう続編出ないよね。あとディスクワールドとか）は省いてます。
あとロマンス系はそもそも読まないので……（ParanormalとかUrban系にそういうのが多い印象）
日本語に翻訳されないであろう、翻訳されても途中で終わるであろう作品を紹介していくよ。ちなみに、ブラッドソングは1巻は素晴らしかったけど、それ以降は急激に評価を落としてちょっとした騒ぎになったくらいである（大袈裟）。翻訳が途絶えて良かったのかもしれん。
今回は作者別に書いてみた
「とにかく饒舌な作家が書く面白いお話。メインストーリーが全然進まないし、主人公にイライラするけどそれでよければどうぞ」
１巻は大評判。２巻は（まだここまでしか出てないはず）同じく大評判と思いきや賛否両論で「なんじゃこりゃ」となるかどうかは読み手の心の広さ次第か。
個人的には３巻出たら読むけど、２巻が出る前ほどは期待していない。
ジムブッチャーといえば、ちょっとだけ翻訳された「ドレスデン・ファイル」で有名（でもない？）だけど、割と正統派のComing Of Ageものを書いていることはあまり知られいてない。
それがこれ
特徴的なのは「Fury」と呼ばれる精霊的な存在。Furyには弱々しいものから強大なものまで存在していて、人間はFuryを日常生活や戦いに使役している。この世界の魔法的を具現化したような存在。
ちなみに、アーバンファンタジーというと、ドレスデン・ファイル（Dresden Files）やDaniel Faust、Mike CareyのFelix Castorみたいな男主人公＋地獄＋魔法＋サキュバスという構造になりがち。
その中では「Rivers of London」は英国風味をうまく使って差別化できているようだ。
Dresden Filesはもう１７巻まででいて、流石に途中で「もういいかな」ってなったりするので一気に読まない方が良さそう。
ホラー風味の Inspector McLean シリーズとかある
そうそう、なぜか死神やネクロマンサーが絡むとコメディになったりする傾向あり。
Neil Gaimanは翻訳もされてるし別枠だと思うのでここでは省略。
現在３冊出版されていて、最後の３冊目から８年経ってようやく今年４巻目が出版されるらしい。ほんとかな？
ちなみに、３冊目までは読んだ。面白いんだけど、ちょっと人を選ぶかも。「大人が大人のために書いた本」というよりも「大人になりきれない中年が同好の士のために書いた」そんな雰囲気のシリーズ。まだ作者４０代なんだけど。
批判する人の意見を読んでみると「普通に人間の男女が出てくるけど、小さい女性が大きな男よりも力が強かったりしてリアリティが気になって意見を言うと作者に『この世界はそう言う世界だ、気に入らないなら読むな』とか言われる。多様性とかフェミニズムに気を使ってリアリティがなくなった世界観」とか言われている。
まあ、同感。
「誰それ？」が普通の反応であろう。もしくは「Expanseの作者？」か？
非常に渋い大人のファンタジーを書くんだけど、GOTのコミックブックとか映像化されたExpanseシリーズとか、儲かる仕事をしちゃってるのでもうファンタジーは書かないのかもしれない……
魔法使いが「Poet」と呼ばれる世界。コンセプトを擬人化して奴隷として使う。意味がわからないと思う。例えば「Seedless」は敵の国の綿花が種をつけないようにすることができる。もちろん他にも色々応用が効いてしまう。ただ、擬人化したコンセプトは寿命があり、いずれ死んでしまう。死んでしまったコンセプトをもう一度擬人化することができない。
派手な魔法合戦とかではなく、奴隷化されたコンセプト（？）の悲しみとかがリリカルに描かれた佳作。

複数のPOVから語られるけど Kellhus という人が中心人物。
世界から孤立した教団で教育を受けた彼は、下界に出て行方がわからなくなった父親を探す旅に出る。Kellhusは、ロゴスを追求した結果、感情などを持たないロボットのような男。
第1巻のタイトル「The Darkness That Comes Before」はKellhusのメンターの以下のような言葉からとられている。
“The thoughts of all men arise from the darkness. If you are the movement of your soul, and the cause of that movement precedes you, then how could you ever call your thoughts your own? How could you be anything other than a slave to the darkness that comes before?”

海外ファンタジーに関する情報収集なんだけど、それ系の海外のブログを見るか
日本でも翻訳が出ている（出てない？）マークローレンス（Broken Empireとか。個人的にはBook of the Ancestorシリーズの方が好き）が主催している（？）らしいSPFBOという賞を探してみると自費出版系の作品を見つけやすい。
あと、よくよく考えたらイマイチの作品を紹介しても意味がないかもしれない。
ものすごく有名な作品（ロビンホブのアレとか）は入れてないです。
そもそも、なぜこんなまとめを書こうと思ったのか、いま思い出した。この本を紹介したかったのでした！！
Fatherと呼ばれる人物に集められた孤児たちは、彼の秘密の力を授けられる。
そのFatherが行方不明になり、Fatherの秘密が隠されたLibraryを狙って……
みたいな、あらすじとかどうでもいいから読んで。
主人公のCarolynは全ての言語、動物の言葉も含めて理解できる。
初っ端で出てくる登場人物の一人のDavidは血液と髪の毛を固めたヘルメットをかぶりチュチュを履いている殺し屋。
ダークだけど、最終的には昇華して終わる感じ。
ちなみに作者名で検索するとLinuxがどうのこうのとかApacheがみたいな本が出てくるけど、同一人物らしい。
「The Chathrand Voyage」シリーズの作者 Robert V.S. Redickの新シリーズ。まだ二冊しか出てない。しかし読んで損はしない。
一巻目の「Master Assassins」はカバーのエピックファンタジーっぽさもあって、ちょっとD&Dや剣と魔法ものと勘違いしちゃうんだけど、読んでみると全然違う。
内容には触れないけど、「殺し屋に間違われた二人組の逃走劇」と聞くと面白そうでしょ？
なぜなら、とんでもなく嫌な女（皇帝の子供３人のひとり）が登場して、主人公ヅラをするからだ。ちなみに、３人とも間違った決断ばかりします。
この人の「Night Angel」三部作は大好きだけど、これはいまひとつ入り込めなかった。最初からスケール大きすぎて、ちょっとリアリティを感じなかったせいかもしれない。
でも完全に好みの問題です。
「It has been generations since the Northlands have seen a hero worthy of the title. Many have made the claim, but few have lived to defend it. Timid, weak, and bullied, Wulfric is as unlikely a candidate as there could be. 」
よく考えたらComing Of Ageが好きなようだ。
まだ２巻までしか読んでなかった。
とても文章が達者な人だと思う。その分一生懸命読む必要があるような。
独特な世界観。読んでて辛くなるかもしれないので好き嫌いが分かれと思う。
ここ２０年くらいは、かなり捻った世界観の小説が増えているようで嬉しい。
いちおう３冊で一通りの話は終わってるはずだけど、いま見たら続きが出ていた。
「A war fueled by the dark powers of forbidden sorcery is about to engulf the Ascendant Empire. Agerastian heretics, armed with black fire and fueled by bitter hatred, seek to sever the ancient portals that unite the empire - and in so doing destroy it.」
よくある光と闇の対決。
「暇があればどうぞ」にするか悩んだんだけど、こっちにした。
なぜなら設定はつまらなそうなのに、読んでみたらなぜか楽しい、そんな作品なので。
ちなみに、設定は「完璧なスーパーマンとして孤立した世界で育てられた男が、外の世界で大活躍する」というお話。案の定、この完璧な男は女性の気持ちが全くわからないという設定。とにかく女性関係以外は全て完璧なので、戦いで負けることはなく、むしろワンパンマン的な圧勝しかしない。その上、殺し屋ギルトや盗賊ギルトの長に簡単になってしまったりるする。すごいぞ、こいつ！
ファンタジーに入れていいんだろうか？現代物でミステリーなんだけどファンタジー要素もあり。
とある田舎町で人々が埋葬のため墓地に集まっていた。その近くで飛行機が墜落して消防隊が現場に向かうんだけど、途中で一人の男とすれ違う。男は記憶をなくしていた。
男は、さっき埋めたばかりの人間を助けるためにきた、らしい。
みたいな話。
達者だわ、が感想。
色々書くとネタバレになるけど、語り手は岩で、終始「Youは」って二人称で語りかける。ジャニーさんかな。小粒だけどなかなか。
とても評判の高いシリーズ。でも一巻でやめた。なんだかリアリティがないのである。やはり、ジュブナイルなのかな。
くだらない内容でも Will Wightの作品は楽しく読めるんだけど、何が違うんだろうね。
翻訳されていると思うので、入れなくていいのかもしれないけど読んだので入れた。
一巻はまあまあだと思う。２巻以降は耐えられなくなる。それが何かもう忘れてしまった。頑張って４巻まで読んだけど。徒労感だけが残った。
これも割と古き良き光と闇の戦い。
海外ファンタジーはなかなか翻訳されることがなく、翻訳されてもシリーズが途中で止まることも多い（マラザンみたいにね）。
ということで必然的に原書で読むことになるんだけど、同好の士の参考になればと思い、近年読んだものも評価をまとめた。
ファンタジーに限らず、出版社からちゃんと出版されるものと自費出版とがあって、近年は自費出版ものも質が大変向上している（とはいえ玉石混交）。ざっくり言うと、自費出版の大半はライトノベルのような内容とクオリティ。
アポカリプスものが大流行したSF界のような大きな傾向がファンタジーにあるかというと、ちょっとよくわからない。エピックファンタジーよりもダークなものが売れているように思う。
てことで近年読んだ本の中からいくつか紹介。あくまでも個人的な趣味です。
（後半疲れたので作品紹介は適当になった。これは一部でまだ大量にあるので時間があれば）
最of高。ダークが好きなら迷わず読め！！
Rukaという主人公はここ10年で読んだ小説の登場人物でトップクラスに好き。
「Ruka, called a demon at birth, is a genius. Born malformed and ugly into the snow-covered wasteland of the Ascom, he was spared from death by his mother's love. Now he is an outcast, consumed with hate for those who've wronged him. But to take his vengeance, he must first survive. 」
母の教えに従いRukaは自分が殺した相手の墓を心の中に作り埋めてあげる。そのうち、心の中の墓場に幽霊が出てきて……
ダークでグロテスクなラヴクラフトを思わせる独特の世界観。とても良い。
「One hundred years ago Nall's Engine was fired on the enemies of the Republic, and in its wake it left a blackened and scarred landscape known as The Misery. Beyond The Misery, a wasteland of corruption and dark magic, reside the even darker entities known as The Deep Kings. They want nothing more than to destroy the Republic, the realm of men」
「誰かが俺たちがくることを忠告しやがった。信者たちは空の部屋と違法の経典をいくつか残して姿をくらました。食べかけの皿、開きっぱなしの箪笥の引き出し。持てるものだけ持ってThe Miseryに逃げ込んだ。制服を着てたころ司令官が言ってたな。The Miseryに好き好んでいくのは追い詰められてヤケクソになってるか馬鹿野郎か欲に駆られた奴だけだって。あいつらはそれだけヤケクソになってるんだ。俺は10人くらいの馬鹿で欲深い男たちを集めて奴らを始末しに出かけた。」
武侠／ドラゴンボール／RPGの影響感じさせるシリーズ。とても好き。
madraというエネルギーを使えるものだけが様々な武力や能力を向上させることができる世界で、madraの適性がない少年Lindonは「空」と書かれたバッヂを胸に下げている。
ある日、天上人に命を救われた彼は、未来を見せてもらうが、そこで見たのはなんとかmadraを使えようになり幸せに生きる自分の姿だった。しかし、同時に村が神獣に破壊される運命であることも知ってしまう。村を救うために、死に物狂いの特訓が始まる。
・Founders 三部作（未完結）：魔力をベースに構築されたスチームパンク世界。
「You've got to be careful when you're chasing a murderer through Bulikov, for the world is not as it should be in that city. When the gods were destroyed and all worship of them banned by the Polis, reality folded; now stairs lead to nowhere, alleyways have become portals to the past, and criminals disappear into thin air.」
ゴミを漁って生活しているRachelが、馬鹿でかい熊の化け物Mord（空も飛べたりする）の毛にくっついていた変わった生き物を発見してBorneと名付ける。Borneはすくすくと成長していき……
これまたダークな作品。
魔力を持ってると殺されてしまう世界で生まれた少年の話。ありがちだけどよくできてる。
「押しよせる帝国軍. 迎え撃つは空に浮かぶ要塞―― 女帝ラシーンが帝位に就いてから七年。以来マラザン帝国は多くの自由都市に侵攻し、大陸をまたぎ、海を越えて版図を拡大してきた。そして侵攻作戦がジェナバキス大陸に及んだ今、若き貴族将校パランは、秘められた魔道の力を知ることになる……空中要塞や異種属との攻防、兵士たちの野望と葛藤、そして渦巻く神々の思惑――猛り狂う運命の波濤を荘厳かつ凄惨に描き、現代最高との呼び声も高いファンタジイ群像劇」らしいよ。
少しだけ翻訳されてたけど、原書は完結済み。キャラクタードリブンではなく世界観を見せていくやつなので、合わない人には全く合わない。あと一巻が読みにくいので、そこを過ぎれば、なんとか行けるかな。
ちなみに、８巻まで読んで今は休憩中。
賛否あると思うけど、４巻の「House of Chains」までは読んで欲しい。
シリーズ名の通り、次々と登場人物が死ぬ。しかし、死んだ人物が普通に活躍したりもするので、その辺が後半になると弱い感じがしてくるところか。

割とたまによくあるんだけど、ローマ帝国風とファンタジー要素を合わせたやつ。
結構読ませる。

よく、作品のあとがきでThanksを述べるときに「and you」で締めるパターンがあるけど、たまに3点リーダーで終わっている場合があって、ちゃんと「and you.」とピリオドを付けて文章を閉じろよと思う。
「and」で来たら、その語が並列の最後でないとおかしいと思う（A, B and C. みたいに）。
それと、「and you」の後に文章を続けるつもりだとして、誰に賛辞を送るつもりなんだろう。
you＝読者一般より、賛辞を送る順番が後ろ＝賛辞を送るレベルが低いのに、それでも賛辞を送らなくてはいけない対象って…
そっか、and me（＝作者） ってこと？
英語の勉強傍ら、DeepLでの翻訳をもとに、英文化してみた。

I hadn't expected this, but as I researched, I found that many of the masterpieces were written on the same principle as my work.
In other words, the degree of "climax" increases toward the end.
The most notable example is Akutagawa's "Nobody knows where the servant" is. The number of climaxes in this story is 367.

It turns out that "climax" is a universal rule that applies to all kinds of writing.
After realizing this fact, I started to write every sentence as if it were a gasp.
And I have been successful in every aspect of my life.
In job-hunting entry sheets, too, it is the distribution of the "climax level" that is important.
For example, in the education section, if you drop out of the university with the name that has the highest "climax level" and use it as your final education, it will look very different.
(It depends on the name of the university, but in general, "dropped out" has a higher climax level than "graduated.)
