ご紹介頂いた論文の最初の文章をご覧下さい。
"Since the 1980s, a widespread view has arisen in the literature that the post-1950 economic successes of Taiwan and the Republic of Korea have been due, in part at least, to the legacy of Japanese colonialism."
とありますよね。現在進行形で記述されている以上、「1950年以降の台湾と韓国の経済的成功は、少なくとも部分的には、日本の植民地政策の遺産に依っている」という説は、30年間にわたって、そして現在も、「広く知られた見解」なのです。もしこの見解が実際にはマイナーなものに過ぎず、私の恣意的な選択によってあたかも広く受け入れられているかのように錯覚させているだけだと思われるのであれば、是非その根拠をお聞かせ頂きたいと思います。私は紹介した論文以外にもいくつかの論文のliterature reviewを参照していますが（議論の大枠をつかむにはこれが一番手っ取り早い）、この見解が学界で広く受け入れられているものであることを疑わせるような記述はただの一つも見つかりませんでした。A Boothの論文も、「歴史修正主義者」の見解がどのようにして学界で広まり、議論が深められていったかを丁寧に説明していますよね。この最初の数段落はサーベイとして良くまとまっていると思いますので、是非ご一読ください。
もちろん、この見解には反論も提出されています。私の最初のエントリーで紹介したHaggard, Kang and Moon (1997)がそれです。ですが、Haggard, Kang and Moonの論文が世に出て10年以上、依然として彼らが異を唱えた見解は広く受け入れられていることはBooth自身が指摘しているわけで、彼らの反論が受け入れられなかったことは明らかです。Boothの論文はまだ発表されて3年ですので、この論文の影響を測るのは難しいですが、比較的似たKimura (2005, JEH)の論文（前のエントリーで紹介済み）と比べて、発表されたジャーナルの格が全く違います（主観的な感想をお許し願えれば、論文自体の説得力もKimura, 2005が遥かに上であると思います）。現時点で、門外漢がどちらを信じるべきかと考えた場合には、やはり学界の多数派であり、多くの一流ジャーナルにアクセプトされている「歴史修正主義者」側の見解を採るほうが客観的でフェアな選択であると思います。少なくとも、「自分の政治的な意見にとって都合のいい方だけを信じる」という、安易な選択よりは遥かに望ましいでしょう。
私自身もブログは持っていますが、この手の話を書くと、議論の内容ではなく、「自分の意見の味方であるか敵であるか」だけに注目して妙な感情論を投げてくる人が多いので、政治宗教プロ野球の話は原則として益田を使うことにしています。妙に興奮した感情論にいちいち答えるのは疲れますから。
また、この件で匿名で書くか実名か、またはペンネーム(id)を使うかが何か重要な違いをもたらす理由が良く分かりません。重要なのはプリンストンのKohliやイェールのReymonds、またはご紹介いただいたSOASのBoothが口をそろえて指摘する、「1950年以降の台湾と韓国の経済的成功は、少なくとも部分的には、日本の植民地政策の遺産に依っている」という見解が広く受け入れられている、ということを信じるかどうかであって、私の個人的見解は披瀝してもいませんし、信じてほしいとも思っていません。
若干突き放した書き方をしますと、あそこまで書いても、中身も読まずに「検討に値しない」とか言ってしまう人は、私が想定する読み手ではないのです。（こういう放言が出来るのも増田のメリットと言えるかもしれませんね。）
