「やばい！」と思い、いちばん安全なところはどこかと思って、そうだクマの背中に乗ってしまえば、抱きつかれないと思い、そっと背中にしがみつきました。クマは朦朧としていて、体をゆっくりと左右に揺らしていました。2歳の若いホッキョクグマだったのですが、当時の自分が乗れるくらいの大きさはあったんです。
クマの背中に必死にしがみつきながら、外にいる人に「追加の麻酔薬をとってきてくれ！」と叫びました。動物園で使用する麻酔薬は、最初から液体ではなくて、動物の大きさに合わせてその都度溶かさなくてはなりません。実際は2～3分だったと思うのですが、クマの背中で待つその時間の長いこと……。一生のうちでいちばん長く感じた2～3分でした。

It's one of the things I'm not used to in Japan, but I can't get used to being laughed at for something I said in earnest.

メリット：

駅ってホームから外に出るまでの道のりがわりと階段が多いのが辛い。もちろん徒歩でもルートによっては歩道橋が何回もあったりするが。つまり、駅通勤でも徒歩疲れはある。
・電車のダイヤや事故に左右されない。遅刻ファクターが自分の足と目覚ましだけになり、他責思考が減り、自立心が養われる。
