現代ジャズピアノの道を大きく広げた一人であることに異論はないであろうエバンス。
上に挙げた曲では、イントロからドラム/ベースが入ってくるところとか、テーマから抜けるところで、胸を握られる感じがします。ドラマチックでわりと大味なテーマから、リリカルなフレーズに抜ける部分がどれも秀逸。緩急の波があって、甘ったるいだけではないところなんかも素晴らしいのではないかと。
この曲が入ってるアルバム You Must Believe in Spring は個人的には好きです。

たぶん、一番知られているのは Play Morricone かなと思うのですが、個人的におすすめしたいのはマークジョンソンとのデュオである Transnoche です。これは最初から最後まで胸を締め付けられっぱなしです。上に挙げた曲もこのアルバムから。
ピラヌンツィは一度見たことがあるのですが、すんごいマッチョなピアノを弾いていてビビりました。「え？キャラちがくね？」という。でも、改めてアルバムを聴いてみると、タッチはかなりカッチリしていて、速いフレーズでもあいまいさはないんですよね。実は。。

ecm の現エース。なのか？わかりませんが、マルチンボシレフスキです。
ビョークのカバーです。もちろん元曲が良いというのもありますが、アレンジも秀逸です。サビがもう。おれの胸は壊れそうです。
この曲が入っているのは ecm での 2nd ですが、ecm からの 1st ではプリンスなんかカバーしてて、そちらも良いです。ecm 以前の作品もありますが、入手性が悪く(おれが買おうとしたころの話。今は違うかも。)、苦労して手に入れた割にイマイチな印象。なので個人的には ecm に移ってからが好きです。
わりとのっぺりとしたプレイスタイルですが、それが"引き"の強さにつながっていると思います。

個人的に最も聞いたのがこの曲が入っている Floating というアルバムなんですが、多作でいろんなことをやる人なので、興味があれば掘ると非常に面白い人です。
上に挙げた曲は、ジャズジャズしいジャズと比べると、もう少しダイレクトなメジャー/マイナー感があり、クラシックぽいなあと思わせる要素が見られます。ケティルはそうした要素をかなり高度に消化しており、明るさを増すところ、暗さを増すところ、それぞれ胸に迫るものがあります。

個人的には、今生きているピアニストで最も好きな人かもなフレッドハーシュ。
いろんな人とやるし、いろいろなことをやる人ですが、常に自身のピアニズムを強く維持しているように見えます。
どんなタイプの曲でも、ある方向だけに傾倒していかない強いバランス感覚があるというか、考え抜かれていると言うか。。
ライブ見る機会がありましたが、ソロの一番良いところでサステインペダルを踏んでコード弾きとか、もう、「殺す気か！？」ってぐらい刺さった記憶がいまでも生々しくよみがえります。
おススメは Alone at the Vanguard なんかが順当なところでしょうが、個人的に Julian Lage とのデュオ Free Flying なども挙げたいところ(乙女分は少ないので、乙女分を求める向きには Alone～がおすすめ。)。
