The simple statement "we want to make sure we have diversity", goes in with the racist assumption that race defines the diversity of who you are. Every individual is diverse. Their life experience is unique. There are some shared experiences for individuals of certain similar upbringing, but the assumption that a certain "race" brings "diversity" IS racist.
