テストデータを作るため、階層型DBを何回も辿ってデータをアウトプットさせるモジュールを書いた。資格試験で学んだSQLは、無用の知識だった。
協力会社への仕事割り振りやユーザー対応に毎日忙しそうだった上司が、夜遅くまでの残業続きでくまのできた目を皿のようにして設計書をレビューした。
ロジックを丸々コピペしてソースを修正し、コンパイルし、実行した。
２週間はあっという間だった。
俺のせいで、半年後以降は使われないロジックがソースにまたひとつ増えた。
今回の対応については、Excel方眼紙にレポートをまとめて共有ドライブに入れておいた。
だが共有ドライブの検索には時間がかかるし、Excelシートの中身となれば検索から漏れることも多い。
きっと誰にも読まれないだろう。
２バイト文字が使えない関係上、原則、ソースにはコメントはあまり入れられない。
数年後の新人はきっと、俺の書いたモジュールを見て「このロジックは何だ」と首を捻るんだろう。
数年後の俺はきっと、今回のレポートを共有ドライブから探し回って新人にパスを教えてから、
協力会社の管理に追われる作業に戻って目の下にくまを作るのだろう。
俺がやりたかったシステム開発って、こんなものだったのか。
俺は部署の中で、俺の望む仕事を探し続けた。
先輩たちは忙しくて誰も興味を持ってないけど、自動化できる作業はいくらでもある。
よく使われるExcelシートを改造し、定例作業をクリックだけでできるようにした。
ExcelVBAとはいえ、書いていて心地よかった。引数が明確な関数と変数のスコープと全角文字があったからだ。
COBOLで打つプログラムより、控えめに見て100倍くらいの生産性を発揮できていたと思う。
先輩たちは喜んでくれたが、ただし俺の仕事を、あまり仕事とは見なさなかった。
それでもよかった。業務時間外は俺は相変わらずスクリプトを書いていた。とても楽しかった。
VBAから入って、WSHなんてものを知り、やがてJavaScriptを学び、ネットで資料を探し、はてなを知り、はてブでWeb技術についての記事を読みふけった。
知れば知るほどに、どんどんCOBOLが、メインフレームが嫌いになっていく。
先輩は誇らしげに言う。システムはたいしたことをやっていない。業務知識こそが大事なのだ。
ユーザーより詳しく業務を理解し、適切に提案し、設計する能力。
協力会社を率いて、わかりやすい文書で指示を行い、スケジュールを調整する能力。
人を動かすぶん、責任も大きくやりがいもある。優秀な人材こそが我が社の強みだ。
そんな人材が育つよう、我が社は安定して働ける環境と福利厚生を整えている。
ああ、そうだよ。先輩、あなたは正しい。

★☆☆☆☆ Not a More Cardio Wii Fit, Rather a Disaster of a Product, July 16, 2009
The concept is fantastic but the wiimote/sensor interaction is too finicky. It made the workout too frustrating. Specifically:
- If the way you hold the wiimote/nunchuck is off even slightly, the exercise stops and waits for you. You have to guess what it's waiting for.
- There reps are not timed to the music and there's no consistency to the timing. Instead of getting into the flow of the reps, it waits for you before it does the next rep. There's too much "thinking" time between reps making it hard to get a good flow to your workout.
- When doing reps, it's normal to anticipate the next rep, but this game does not allow for that. You finish a rep, the program goes back to the top of its do loop and then it does the next rep. It's very choppy - there's no smooth rhythm to the reps.
- If you move even a little faster than the "follow me" droid it stops completely (like its giving up), puts a note on the screen and waits for you to go back to the top of the rep.
- The instruction videos take FOREVER to demonstrate a simple exercise. Between that and the delay between reps, there's lots of down time.
Overall, I found it very frustrating because every time my workout started to flow, something interrupted it. I've had the Wii for over a year, and play with it daily so I don't think it's a learning curve issue.

Day Three: In Tokyo for Yoko Kanno Concert
The show @ Saitama Super Arena was absolutely incredible...3 hours long! It was a real mix of J-pop, symphonic, musician's music (jazz-rock, funk, etc) and beautiful ballads. I sang The Garden Of Everything duet w/ Maya Sakamoto - @ rehearsals I was having a rough time memorizing the crazy words (even more trippy than Hendrix or Lennon) but in the end I nailed it. When I did "Could You Bite The Hand" the crowd went nuts clapping in time throughout the song, just my acoustic guitar and 17,000 people! It was the biggest crowd I've ever "fronted" before - what a rush man. When I got to Call Me, Call Me they were like putty in my hands. Later in the show I came back and did a killer version of Rain as a duet w/ Mai Yamane. It was really good to see everyone again....I only wish we could do this more often.
Day Two: In Tokyo for Yoko Kanno Concert
The 1st rehearsal was a trip, lots of staging, etc. The first time I appear onstage I perform 3 songs in a row starting with a duet w/ Maya Sakamoto "The Garden Of Everything". We start out on opposite ends of a long stage and move toward each other by the end. As I reach the other side of the stage with my wireless microphone, an acoustic guitar and mic stand rise up from out of the floor, I strap on the guitar and do "Could You Bite The Hand?" - When I'm done I set the guitar back down, it disappears into the floor with the mic stand and I finish with "Call Me, Call Me" backed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. Pretty Awesome. Later in the show I come back for a duet of "Rain" with Mai Yamane and back her up on "Gonna Knock A Little Harder". It's gonna be an amazing show!
Day One: In Tokyo for Yoko Kanno Concert
Happy July 4th! I am just now waking up in Tokyo. On the plane there were many people wearing surgical masks and constantly washing with Purell. It was a 12 hour flight so I slept a bit, worked on learning the words for Yoko's concert that I'm singing on here and watched some movies/tv. Typical boring flight. When I got in to Narita airport my contact, Cherry met me and took me to where I"m staying - Hotel Sunroute Plaza in Shinjuku section of Tokyo. After I cleaned up we went out for something to eat and although I had my heart set on sushi she took me to a place called Momma's - a homestyle Japanese place that serves little dishes of different stuff, like their version of tapas. Anyway, I did have some octopus sashimi...but also uni flavored tofu, raw scallop and a strange salad with lettuce, red pepper raw tuna & octopus, raisins, cashews & cheese. When I got back to the hotel and passed out right after. I just awoke to white skies and bizzare shaped buildings outside my window. Now I'm off to have an equally adventurous breakfast...

そう願って、何も知らなかった文系新卒の俺が金融系のシステム会社に入って、もう一年以上が経つのだ。
昔、お遊びでゲームを作ったことはあった。RPGツクールなんかが好きだった。
パズルみたいで楽しかった。コンピュータの中身が理解できて、わくわくした。
楽々と基本情報技術者の資格を手にし、半年後にはほとんど勉強もせずにソフ開も取得した。
研修の課題では同期の誰よりも速く、短く効率のいいソースを仕上げた。
現場に出て、本番機に触った。
３０年間親会社を支え続ける偉大なシステムの中身を、わくわくしながら覗いた。
そこには、俺の求めていた世界とはまったく違うものが広がっていた。
俺が産まれる前から、入れ替わり立ち替わり何人もの手によって継ぎ足されたロジック。
何千行にもわたって、似たような処理が何回もひたすら繰り返される似たようなモジュール何十本。
1993年に行う臨時処理のロジックが、今もコメントもなしに埋め込まれている。
仕様がわからなくなれば、キャビネへと走って、黄ばんだ方眼紙に鉛筆で書かれた仕様書を探し、
そして修正履歴のみが書かれているのを確認して肩を落とす。
半年後に臨時で行われる業務に対応するため、いくつかのモジュールについて、処理可能なユーザーコードをひとつ、条件に加える。
与えられた期間は２週間だった。ずいぶん長いなと思った。
何枚もの設計書を書いた。つまり、方眼紙状のExcelテンプレートに同じ文章をコピペした。
追っていったモジュールはどれも、ヒープもソートもメモリ管理も論理演算も出番がなかった。
あるのはただ、IF文とMOVE文とばかりだった。ソースの難易度は使われている命令の数とは関係ないことを学んだ。
テストデータを作るため、階層型DBを何回も辿ってデータをアウトプットさせるモジュールを書いた。資格試験で学んだSQLは、無用の知識だった。
協力会社への仕事割り振りやユーザー対応に毎日忙しそうだった上司が、夜遅くまでの残業続きでくまのできた目を皿のようにして設計書をレビューした。
２日後、承認が出た。フェーズが設計から開発に移った。
ロジックを丸々コピペしてソースを修正し、コンパイルし、実行した。
２週間はあっという間だった。
俺のせいで、半年後以降は使われないロジックがソースにまたひとつ増えた。
今回の対応については、Excel方眼紙にレポートをまとめて共有ドライブに入れておいた。
だが共有ドライブの検索には時間がかかるし、Excelシートの中身となれば検索から漏れることも多い。
きっと誰にも読まれないだろう。
２バイト文字が使えない関係上、原則、ソースにはコメントはあまり入れられない。
数年後の新人はきっと、俺の書いたモジュールを見て「このロジックは何だ」と首を捻るんだろう。
数年後の俺はきっと、今回のレポートを共有ドライブから探し回って新人にパスを教えてから、
協力会社の管理に追われる作業に戻って目の下にくまを作るのだろう。
俺がやりたかったシステム開発って、こんなものだったのか。
俺は部署の中で、俺の望む仕事を探し続けた。
先輩たちは忙しくて誰も興味を持ってないけど、自動化できる作業はいくらでもある。
よく使われるExcelシートを改造し、定例作業をクリックだけでできるようにした。
ExcelVBAとはいえ、書いていて心地よかった。引数が明確な関数と変数のスコープと全角文字があったからだ。
COBOLで打つプログラムより、控えめに見て100倍くらいの生産性を発揮できていたと思う。
先輩たちは喜んでくれたが、ただし俺の仕事を、あまり仕事とは見なさなかった。
それでもよかった。業務時間外は俺は相変わらずスクリプトを書いていた。とても楽しかった。
VBAから入って、WSHなんてものを知り、やがてJavaScriptを学び、ネットで資料を探し、はてなを知り、はてブでWeb技術についての記事を読みふけった。
知れば知るほどに、どんどんCOBOLが、メインフレームが嫌いになっていく。
先輩は誇らしげに言う。システムはたいしたことをやっていない。業務知識こそが大事なのだ。
ユーザーより詳しく業務を理解し、適切に提案し、設計する能力。
協力会社を率いて、わかりやすい文書で指示を行い、スケジュールを調整する能力。
人を動かすぶん、責任も大きくやりがいもある。優秀な人材こそが我が社の強みだ。

ここで言うゲームってのはPCゲームではなくて家庭用ゲーム機の事を指すわけで、
王者ってことで調子乗ってたPS3が惨敗しているとか、負け組みだった任天堂がWIIでがんばってるってことで語るのもちょっと違う。
いや、違いはないんだけど、じゃ、ゲームってどうなの？って話。
そもそもの始まりはファミコンからまあ、他にもいろいろあったが、まあ、とりあえず家庭用ゲーム機という語り部としてふさわしいのはこいつだ。
当時ファミコンが店頭に並んでいた時代、ゲーム製作は金山堀りとおんなじだった、
ちっともうだつのあがらなかったどうしようもない大学生や専門学校生がはじき出されるように社会に出て、「どうする？俺就職できね、ゲームでも作る？」って具合にはじめることが出来たのが当時のファミコンゲームのソフト会社の製作環境。
マンション借りて、ちょっとした機材そろえて、全く初期投資がほとんどかかんなかった、で見返りはでかい、
制作費300万円くらいの今だったら誰も手をつけないような糞ゲーでも売れた、売れた、もう馬鹿みたいに売れた。
ファミコンソフトってだけでこんな馬鹿な話があるかってぐらい売れたんだから、そりゃ同業他社もどんどん参入してくることになるんだが。
んで、ファミコンソフトがいくらで売られていたか、大体7000千円??多くて10000円越えがふつーだった、もちろんこれは暴君任天堂のロイヤリティーが絡んでいたわけだけど、それでもユーザーはなけなしのお年玉で、いや、そのころは景気がよかったからか、まあ、とにかく売れたんだ、あの糞ゲーも、この糞ゲーも誰もそのソフトの価値がわからなかったし、そもそもゲーム自体ほとんどやったことかったから批評のやり様もない、また、買い比べをするにはいささか高すぎる。
だがそんな地上の楽園のような状態も長くは続かなかった、
そもそも、ゲーム会社とはゲームを作って売る商売である、幾数ヶ月かけてゲームを作り、それを売ってその利益でどうする？
そりゃ、ゲームを作るしかない。じゃまた作った、で、また次だ。
こんな感じで回っているのだから一本売れなかったらどうなる？
アウト・その会社は一気に資金難に陥ることになる。
でその会社の末路はどうなるのか、現在製作中の完成率70％のソフトを売りに出すのである、なぜか？
それしか売るものがないからだ、で完成率70％のソフトが売れるのか？
売れるわけがない、じゃあ次だ、次は45％だが仕方がない、スタッフには申し訳ないが死ぬ気で働いてもらうしかない。
このソフトが売れなければ、我が社は。。。。
会社ってものはそうそう現金を溜め込んでおけるわけもなく、他に事業でもしていない限り資金は次にまわされる、ゲーム会社は作ってはぼろ儲け、また作ってはぼろ儲けの連続だった黎明期と時代がうって変わったことに気づかなかった、そしていきなり訪れる、不作。
ネットゲームなんてなかったころの話だ。
こればっかりは天に雨乞いをしようともどうしようもない、多すぎるソフト会社の山は大量の売れ残りを生み、負債を抱え込んだ企業は次々にその命を絶っていった。
あれだけの作品があったのに、といわれたゲーム会社が1本や2本そこらの不作で潰れる、そんなことがざらにあった。
だが、まだゲーム業界の生命は絶たれていなかった、そのころは新規参入企業は死兵よりもはるかに多かったのである、
それもスーパーファミコンの中期になってくるとちょっと事情が変わってくる、どうやらユーザーは3日間徹夜で作ったようなゲームには見向きもしなくなった、それこそ指一本触れなくなったのだ、ユーザーもゲームの価値がわかってきた、面白いものとそうでないものがあって、面白いものだけ買えばいいと気がついたのだ。
じゃあ、そのころ何が売れていたのか？
開発に数ヶ月、しかも多くのスタッフを抱え、同人サークルではありえないようなクオリティを生み出す集団、すなわち大手ゲーム会社のソフトだった。
その傾向は高まるにつれて大手ゲーム製作会社はその規模をどんどんと拡大していく、そして戦争、その後、PSの時代が来る。
ま、大手ソフト開発会社が何をやっているかといえば結局規模の大きい綱渡りであることには変わりはない。
PSが何をしたのか？成長したソフト会社を味方につけたことが大きい、任天堂封建国家のロイヤリティま、年貢、を廃したのだ、これは多くのソフト会社が飛び乗った、だれもがそれが正しいと考えた、そしてその恩恵はユーザーにも訪れた、だれもが目を疑ったスーパーファミコンより明らかに高性能のソフトが5000円台で買える、そんなあほな、今までのはなんだったんだ？
この値下げは功を奏し、ゲーム業界はPS時代に突入することになる。
制作費がかさむのだ、それこそCGやMOVEが氾濫し、複雑なプログラミングを組み、職人一人がやっていたことを複数のさらに腕のたつ専門家が頭をひねらないと出来ない、とてもおいそれとゲームを作れるような環境ではなくなっていた。
じゃあ、販売価格を、NOだ、単価は上げることが出来ない、一度下がった単価はもはや二度と浮き上がることは無い、そんなことをすれば即あの世行きだ。
会議に会議を重ね、制作期間は長期間にわたり、制作費はかさみ、捨てられたゴミアイデアは山のように積みあがる、ゲーム会社はいつの間にか一流企業になっていて、とても失敗は出来ないからだになっていた、だ、だが、ゲームは、ゲームソフトは。
その寿命をさらに短くしていたのだった、これはゲームの値段が下がったからだ、ユーザーは余ったお金で何本もゲームを買うが新作ゲームではなく中古ソフトだった。一本のゲームが市場に存在する時間は無常にも半年を切っていた。
製作費はかさみ、制作期間は延びる、で、虎の子で出したソフトは3ヶ月の寿命しかない、ファミコン戦国時代を生き残った大手ソフト会社も悲鳴を上げる未曾有の事態が訪れることになった、現場は火を噴き、経営陣は再販業者を鬼の子のように憎み、誰もが天を仰いだ。
ようやく均衡状態になったのは何かが改善されたからではない、何のことはない、ゲーム会社がさらに減っただけのことだった。
そして、PS3、SONYは過ちを犯したのかもしれない、確かにこれ以上の制作費の高騰はソフト製作会社にとって負い目でしかない。
そしてユーザーは前には戻らない、いまさらファミコンなんかやらない、いまさら8ビットのゲームなんかやるわけが無い、ましてや金を払うとは到底思えない、じゃあ、前作より高クオリティなものを？無理だ、不可能だ、そのソフトが不発だったらどうするんだ？いったい我が社はどうすればいいんだ。
今はまだネットゲームとパチンコ・スロットで持っているけど、この先そんな綱渡りがいつまでも続くわけが無いじゃないか。
任天堂が突いてきたのはこの点だった、だったら、ユーザーがやったことのないことをやらせればいい、見たことないものを見せる必要は無い。ユーザーにコントローラー以外のものをもたせろ、CGなんぞどうでもいい、そんなものは犬に食わせるんだ。今までゲームに目を向けなかったものにゲームをやらせろ、それは必ずしもゲームである必要は無い、目の肥えたコアユーザーなど今では害でしかないでは無いか。
ゲームというのは他の業種と違う、安定収入が全く無い（ネトゲは別）、同じものを二度以上作ってはいけない、単発で数打てばというように大量のソフトを出し続けることも出来ない、ブランドほど頼りないものは無い。
一球入魂、これだけだ、今も昔も変わらない、売れ残ったゲームソフトはゴミにしかならない、そのソフトにいくら製作費がかかっていようと、いくら背作者が情熱を注ごうと、コアユーザーがいくら声を張り上げようとも。
もうひとつ、技術革新と共にゲームはあった、1から2に2から3に次世代作を出すごとにユーザーには感動があった、驚きがあった、新鮮さがあった。ユーザーの期待を裏切らなかったのは技術革新が共に寄り添っていたからだ。
だって、最初が0だったんだから当たり前の話だよ。
PS2の中盤になってそれがとまった、ぱったりとやんだ。
技術革新はユーザーに驚きをもたらさなくなった、ある一定以上の複雑さはユーザーの限界を超えた、ある一定以上の高画質はモニターと動体視力の限界を超えた。
この頃のユーザーは0から共に育ったユーザーとは打って変わってもう大分進んだ先からゲームに触れた世代だというのもある、もともと高画質の世界を見てきた世代だ、いまさらMOVEの華麗さに声を上げることは無い。
根っからのコアユーザーは童心に帰りたがった、子供の頃の感動を求めた、だが、その感動は「大人になった今でも、山でカブトムシを見つけて狂喜したい」というような理不尽なものでしかなかった。
その要求にこたえようとした一部のメーカーは幾つかのリメイクを画策し、苦心して過去のヒット作のリメイク版を出した、あほだ。
童心に帰りたいやつに新しく作り変えた物を見せてどうする？
じゃあ、もう移植でいいよとばかりにデータコピーを投げやりに出したものが当たったのだから、何をかをいわんやである。
