Media made us restrict our movements during COVID-19, and it had a very big impact. I checked Twitter and TV every day to see how many people were getting COVID-19, being hospitalized, and dying. Japanese TV showed videos of people on artificial respirators in hospitals, which was shocking and made me afraid to go out. I worried that if I got COVID-19, I would end up in the hospital on a respirator and might die. After watching those shows, I couldn't watch regular news on TV because I was so scared of COVID-19.
I stayed home for a long time, but I caught the virus from my father in September 2023. He had been coughing a lot since 2020 because of another disease, so I thought it was just that. But in the middle of September, his cough sounded different, so I thought it might be COVID-19. I was planning to go to Canada at that time, but things turned out badly. Both my mother and I got COVID-19 and had a very tough time. It was hard to breathe, but after a month, my symptoms weren't as bad. I didn't need to be hospitalized. I think that sometimes watching social media or TV can give us negative information that restricts our movements, but in this case, it was too much.

Assuming you walked from Tochigi Station
Walk towards the station along the road in front of the New Ginger Museum,
and you will see a huge building with Tochigi Bank written on it.
Cross the traffic light in front of it and you will see a mysterious house with a Communist Party poster on it called Hasegawa Makura something, then walk towards Yakiniku King
Then you will see a building with TOBU written on it, and the city hall is on the second floor and above.
Where is the tourist information centre?
Do not cross in front of Tochigi Bank as in the previous steps, but walk until you reach the diagonal road. Then you will see a really large parking lot and the tourist information centre is next to it (they sometimes hold events in this large parking lot).
There is. If you head towards the city hall, you will definitely get there. The Ashikaga Bank is diagonally opposite.
How do I get to the Uzumagawa River?
There are fishing equipment shops and clothing stores lined up next to Starbucks.
Turn towards the shopping street and you will see a bridge. That's Korai Bridge, and the river that flows underneath is the Uzumagawa River.
On the way from the museum to the station, there is a Toyota rental car, so you can rent a car there, or ask the tourist information center where you can rent a bicycle.
If you can get either of those, go straight to Nakazawa Seimen, then turn toward Yoshinoya. If you keep going up the mountain, you will find Yamaoka-ya diagonally across from Aeon.
I want to go to Korakuen.
Go in the opposite direction from the station (where the viaduct is),
you will find TSUTAYA. From there, pass Family Mart and the gas station, cross the crosswalk, and you will find Korakuen in the parking lot of a supermarket called Yaohan (there are a lot of old people there).
Where is the pachinko parlor?
Drive past TSUTAYA, and beyond Korakuen there is a bridge, and beyond that is the pachinko parlor. After that, go past Yamaokaya and go to Aeon, and there will be a pachinko parlor right in front of you (as an aside, that store has disappeared once)
I want to buy something to drink
Go outside and go to Kawachi, which is just across the crosswalk. Yesterday they were selling oolong tea for 60 yen. Oh, inside the museum there is a vending machine that sells something like fresh ginger powder, disguised as a drink vending machine. Be careful
You can use the ATM at the Family Mart next to TSUTAYA, or go to the 7-Eleven in front of the station (next to Sukiya), or use the ATM at the convenience store inside the station.

In the months following publication, we noticed that our case report has gained significant public attention, particularly on social media platforms. More specifically, our case report has been largely misinterpreted and used as a study providing evidence that mRNA COVID-19 vaccination can trigger a phenomenon which has non-scientifically been referred to as “turbo cancer”. First of all, we wish to unequivocally disassociate ourselves from this term. In our case report, there is not a single reference to a condition called “turbo cancer”, nor do we recognize it as a legitimate medical term.

Guo Wengui lied to hundreds of thousands of his online followers, promising them huge profits if they invested in GTV Media Group, Himalayan Farm Alliance, G| Club and Himalayan Exchange. Since at least March 2018, Guo Wengui has been the mastermind behind the complex financial scam, in which he and his financial adviser Kin Ming Je defrauded thousands of people and made more than $1 billion. Guo Wengui's success has a "cult" flavor. Calling believers in the name of "anti-communist", creating a community with closed information, while bullying or threatening to punish those who are not firm in their beliefs. After packaging himself as a "master" type of figure, it is natural to harvest the wealth of believers.

▼Some companies are mandating vaccines — but not for front-line workers
https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2021/8/19/22629327/employee-vaccine-mandate-walmart-uber-lyft
Walmart, for example, will require all of its corporate and regional staff to be vaccinated against Covid-19 by October 4 unless they have an “approved exception,” namely, a religious or medical reason not to be vaccinated. But it isn’t asking the same of store associates and warehouse workers, to whom it is instead offering a $150 incentive for getting vaccinated (it previously offered $75) and paid time off.
But right now your largest ones, Amazon and Walmart, are not mandating it for their line staff. If they were to make that call, my guess is that lots of other companies would follow suit.

This phrase became popular in 2020 when a tribute music video/song about her went viral on YouTube through the algorithm, and members of the Larpercore community started making videos referencing it by acts such as jumping off a building in video games like ROBLOX. According to some news reports, some people were actually harmed after trying the so-called "challenge".

A pair of people ordered two hamburgers with a tomato slice. One can not eat tomatoes since she has an allergy to tomatoes. So, they asked the burger shop not to put a slice of tomato in a hamburger and to put two slices of tomato in another hamburger. How do you think the likelihood that the shop kindly do it to them in the US?
ChatGPT
In the US, the likelihood that a burger shop would accommodate a request to modify hamburger orders to account for a tomato allergy by omitting a tomato slice in one burger and adding an extra slice to another is very high. American food establishments are generally accustomed to customizing orders to meet dietary restrictions and preferences. This includes adjustments for allergies, personal taste, or dietary needs. The scenario described involves a simple modification, and staff at most restaurants, especially those that pride themselves on customer service, are likely to fulfill such a request without issue. Ensuring customer satisfaction and safety, particularly when it comes to allergies, is a priority for many establishments. Therefore, as long as the request is communicated clearly, the shop should be able to accommodate it kindly.

I mean sure, you can totally go full retard and butcher the fuck out of grammar and still perfectly sound natural so long as that’s what a native speaker would say (i.e. baby talk). But who’s gonna take you seriously if you talk like that anywhere you go? Every place has its established norm and if you deviate from it you might be ignored or worse bullied for being a nuisance, which is the case for me when I post on 4chan; I get far less (you)s when I write differently from how the majority of them does. If you wanna blend in and not stand out, it’s important to adjust the formality and wording to match the situation, which is what native speakers would normally do (And yes, most of what’s on 4chan, reddit or whatever else is far more complex than what we’ve written here in English, just go look at a random thread like this one: https://boards.4chan.org/pol/thread/464155987/elon-musk-is-retarded). Only using basic vocab/grammar/rhetoric, etc. only takes you so far.
(Btw I also was once told by a British that she couldn’t tell me apart from a native speaker, though I don’t think I’m even remotely close to being one cuz of these reasons.)
`I see nobody on the road,' said Alice.
`I only wish I had such eyes,' the King remarked in a fretful tone. `To be able to see Nobody! And at that distance, too! Why, it's as much as I can do to see real people, by this light!'
That’s pretty good for a Japanese person outside of a few minor hiccups and also the last sentence which imo would be better written as something like: It’d be a whole book if I were to go into the details.
That said, native speakers and even some of the competent non-native speakers often use much more complex vocabulary and rhetoric like you’d see on 4chan, especially on /pol/. Personally I’ve never seen a single Japanese with that level of fluency except for 帰国子女. And I wouldn’t consider someone to be truly 英語ができる or ネイティブレベル unless they’re at that level. Just my two cents.
I went to a language school in UK for a bit. My grammar sucked tbh but I was somewhat good at speaking. There wasn't much grammar study. It was more like training each pattern again and again. Like you train "so that" pattern in 10 different settings for example. Then I came to the states and just started working. You swim or drown situation. I didn't wanna drown obviously so did everything. I memorized thousands of vocabularies, read hundreds of magazines and mangas, watched tons of sitcoms and animes, practiced differentiating and pronouncing vowels and consonants, limiting myself to only search in English, basically anything you can think of except using Japanese materials as I didn't find it helpful. It'll be a book if I go into the details but you got the idea.
