Looking through the archives of medical history, there are a number of people with tiny brains, or brains with huge chunks missing entirely, which defy all odds.
In a 2007 Lancet study, doctors described an incredible medical oddity – the 44-year-old civil servant who had lived a normal life despite having an incredibly tiny brain. The French man went into hospital after he experienced weakness in his left leg for two weeks. Doctors were quite surprised when they took scans of his brain and found a huge fluid-filled chamber.
The scans showed that the man had a “massive enlargement of the lateral, third, and fourth ventricles, a very thin cortical mantle and a posterior fossa cyst,” researchers noted in the study. In short, while fluid normally circulates throughout the brain, it’s regularly drained. But instead of draining the fluid into the circulatory system, the fluid in this man’s brain built up. Eventually, the accumulation of fluid resulted in only a tiny amount of actual brain material.
The man’s medical history showed that he had to get a shunt inserted into his head as an infant to get rid of the buildup of fluid on the brain, known as hydrocephalus. The shunt was eventually removed when at age 14, he complained of left leg weakness and some unsteadiness. The man went on to live a normal life and he got married and had two children. メインキャラクターの一人、エルは特にひどい目にあわされ続ける。学校でいじめられ、久しぶりに会ったボーイフレンドにも嘘をついて誤魔化しギクシャク、挙句の果てに傷害事件まで起こしてしまう。失った力を取り戻すために悲惨なトラウマとなってる過去をほぼ強制的に見せられ、やっと仲間と再開して心からの笑顔が出るのが全9話中第8話のラスト。しかも悲しさ混じりで、笑顔の時間ほんの数秒。最終話でもすべてが終わったあとのエピローグというか、次シーズンへの繋ぎシーンで笑顔を見せるが、S4全部で782分、9エピソードあって最後5分はスタッフロールだから45分引いたら737分。12時間以上あって、最後の25分までずっと酷い目にあいっぱなし。
24 -TWENTY FOUR- のジャック・バウアーとか、(性別関係無く)大人がボッコボコにされてコテンパンにされ、なんとか最後に勝利するってのは、勿論ストレスはあるにはあるが楽しめる。でもダメだ、未成年がここまでボコボコに精神的にも肉体的にもやられるのは楽しめない。よほどひどい業でもあるのなら話は変わってくるが、エルはそういうキャラでもない。勿論業がないわけではないが本人の選択によるものというよりは境遇によるある程度仕方のない物だからだ。これは今シーズンでシーズンボスヴェクナのターゲットとなり酷い目に遭い続けるメインキャラNo.2マックスも同じだ。
それなのに12時間もずっとエルがしんどい顔してるのを見せ続けてくる。どんな拷問だよ！
ちなみに1～7話が第一部として5/27に配信、8,9話は第二部として7/1配信だ。つまり7/1までエルが心から笑うシーンは無かった。
マックスも笑うシーンがあるのは8，9話だけじゃないだろうか。彼女の方はエピローグでも意識不明の重体だが。
自分の命を狙ってきた兵士とはいえ、エルが自らの意思で「殺人」してるのもしんどい。多分死んでるよな？あのヘリにのってた兵士。狙撃銃持ってエルを殺そうとしてたんだから正当防衛ではあるんだろうけど……銃が身近ではない日本人的には理解はできても納得しがたい。「正当防衛」なら一切の業、カルマなぞ発生しないって割り切れるの、アメリカか治安が相当悪い所に限られるのでは。
1話でまず視聴者が見せられるのは、キレキャラっぽいエディがマイクやダスティンに、TRPGキャンペーンの重要なセッション(ドラマに例えるとシーズンとエピソード)に出られないルーカスの代わりを探してこいとパワハラかましてるところ。意図したのかどうか分からんが、少なくともS1～3までメインキャラクター達が遊んでた対等さはない。高校のクラブならそんなもんだっていうならそれでもいいけど。自分がつるんでたオタ仲間、先輩風吹かせて圧力掛けてくるような人ほんとに一人もいなかったんだよね。高校時代は先輩とのそういう付き合いなかったし、大学時代の話でそれも2桁はいないんだけどさ。自分が幸運すぎただけなのか？それにそもそもTRPGで1人たりないからプレイできないなんてそんな馬鹿な話ある？って論点もある。
実はエディも悪い奴じゃない。1話最後の方で一緒に楽しく遊んでる姿は描かれてはいる。
これが楽しい日常の最後のシーンで、この後1話ラストからひたすら重たい話が続く。
シーズンボスヴェクナのターゲットになったマックスは別にしても、その元カレルーカスやお調子者ダスティンは見せ場がいっぱいあるのに、マイクはエルの彼氏役、ウィルはマイクへの恋愛感情を隠して(るようなニュアンスで、明言はないのだが)喧嘩して仲直りするだけ。だけって言うと異論はとんでくるんだろうけど、他に記憶に残った見せ場が無い。一番主体的な見せ場がなかったのはマイクか？別シーズンでつり合いとればいいのかもしれんけど、それでも今回ほんとエルとマックスだらけでウィル・マイクの影が薄すぎた。
シーズンボスは何故高校生ばかり殺すのか。心理的トラウマ持ちを狙うというが、殺された高校生のトラウマは大して描かれず、高校生である必然性も俺には分からなかった。俺は安易に子供を殺すのが大嫌いだ！！！！(勿論フィクション上のことで、現実では安易じゃなくても大嫌いだ)
1話で下級生にパワハラかましたりドラッグ売ろうとしたりチアリーダー殺害者の汚名を着せられたエディは実はいい奴で主人公たちと一緒になって戦うのだが、最後は「俺が囮になって時間をかせいでやる」というクリシェを発動して犠牲になる。これも誘導が甘いというか、理由付けが余りに雑。殺すために殺しただろ、としか俺には思えなかった。後日避難所で、ジャスティンがエディの父親に形見を渡しながら、町の住人ほとんどが殺人者だと思ってるエディだが、「本当はいい奴だったことを知っている」なんて伝えるお涙頂戴シーンまでねじ込んでくるの。泣くよ。そりゃ泣くだろ普通。でも無理矢理泣かされてる感しかねえんだよこっちは！！！！雑だから！！！理由が納得できないから！！！！！俺は安易に子供を殺すのが大嫌いだ！！！！

3話の冒頭のシーンなんだけど、S4で一番納得いかなかったのがこのニヤつくジェイソン。1話でガールフレンドが殺されて、その犯人だとされるエディ(真犯人ではない)を狩り(探し)にいこうと車で準備中、メインキャラの一人であるルーカスに近寄る時に気持ち悪くニヤつくの。これがもう本当に無理だった。なんでガールフレンド殺した犯人捕まえにいく文脈でこんな笑い顔が出てくるの？アメリカ人ならわかるの？日本人でもわからないとおかしいの？俺がおかしいの？ガールフレンドが殺された直後でも、場合によっては笑顔出る事もあるだろうよ、それでも犯人狩りにいこうと誘う時に出るか？これがずっと強烈ひっかかってて、ワンチャン邪悪な物に操られてるんなら筋は通るよな、と思ったけどそういうのも一切無し。アホか！！！！！！！！！！！！！
もうこうなってくるとS3までなら気にならなかったところまでガンガン嫌になってくる。
これは翻訳上の問題だけど、1話のTRPGセッション中の大逆転シーンで、20面体ダイスで20だして「Crit Hit!」て言ってる。
これを吹替で「やった～！」字幕で「命中」て訳してるのブチキレたくなる。
簡単に、一般化しないといけないのはわかるけどさすがにはしょりすぎでは？？？
「クリティカルだ！」でも相当割合わかるでしょ？分からない人ちょっとでもだしたらだめなの？
ジョイス(ウィルの母親)とマレー(眼鏡のさえない陰謀論系の元ジャーナリスト)がソ連の収容所にいるホッパーを助けに行く。ド素人2人がガチ収容所にどうすんだよ、と思ったらあっさり捕まって捕虜になったかとおもえば、マレーが実はカラテかなんかの達人でした！ってなろうもびっくりなコミカル珍道中。子供組が超シリアスやってるのになぜ大人組がコミックリリーフ担当なの……？？正直リリーフする前には？ってなる。
4話の残り時間38:08あたり。階段下の、マイクたちが逃げてきた部屋に入ってきた兵士が護衛に撃たれるんだけど、撃たれた位置からすれば完全に撃たれるために発砲しないで待ってる。兵士目線では絶対に護衛を先に撃てる状況にある。カメラ外に居るやられ役モブは発砲しないとか随分初心者向けな無双系FPSだな。
6話のラスト、湖底のゲートに引きずり込まれたスティーブを追ってみんな湖に飛び込んでいくんだけど、時系列的にその直後の7話冒頭で濡れてるやつだれもいないの。みんな髪の毛ふわふわだし服も濡れてない。なんだそれ……
ベタだったりあまり好きじゃない演出があったのはちゃんと分かってた。それでもお話が面白かったから大して気にならなかったのに、S4で気に入らないポイントがでてくると粗探しばっかしてしまってご覧の有様になってしまった。
いやね、S3でも薄々ちょっと気配はあったんですよ、話が大きくなりすぎる気配が薄々ね。それでも好きか嫌いかって聞かれたらノータイムで好きって答えられる作品だったの、S3までは。
自分はそれなりにタイトルにたいするLoyaltyが高い方で、好きなタイトルが途中で評判悪くなってもそれなりに好きなままでいる方だと思う。Game of Thronesの最終シーズンは酷評されまくってたけど、期待外れ感はわかるけどそこまで酷評されるほどじゃない、と思ったし、Netflix版House of Cardsの最終シーズンも、ファンなら楽しめるんじゃない？位には好きだ(見返す事は多分ないけど)。
でもストレンジャーシングスS4、世間の評判は悪くないし、Twitterなんか絶賛一色だし、imdbみたらS3までより盛り上がる部分では高レート。Rotten TomatoではTOMATOMETER/AUDIENCE SCOREが、S1から97/96 94/90 89/86 90/89。Rottenではシーズンすすむと評価若干下がってるけど、俺の中じゃこんなもんじゃない落第点だ。あまり否定的な意見てネットに出にくいんだろうけど。
自分がS4ダメな理由の大部分を占めてるのが、いくらなんでもエルを酷い目に合わせすぎってこと。ここさえクリアできれば楽しめるのかな、とも思う。ホーキンス組は1話後半で楽しんでるシーンあるけど、カリフォルニア組はそれすら無いからね。そもそもエルはS3まで十分に酷い目にあってきたんだよ。それなのにまたさらにひどい目に合わせるのか！
でもなんでみんなそんな普通に楽しめるの？こんだけ子供が辛い目にあいまくってて。
自分はホラー映画好きじゃなくて殆ど見ないんだけど、ホラー映画では子供も普通に酷い目に遭いまくってるの？でも映画ならせいぜい2時間前後じゃん？ドラマで12時間以上あるんだよS4。その殆どで強烈なストレスに晒されてるの、未成年が。3人も殺されて、エル以外にも、メインの1人であるマックスまで重大な死の危険と長い間隣り合わせで、最後は意識不明で入院中。なんでこんなに未成年がひどい目にあうの嫌いなのか自分でもわかんないけどほんとダメだ。年取りすぎたのかね？S1とかではウィルが酷い目に遭ってるシーンはここまで徹底的に描かれなかったから許容できただけ？
あれをやっちゃう制作陣を俺は信用できないわ。あれみんなどうやって納得してんの？確実に意図した演出だよね？俺が知らないだけでホラージャンルにはあれを説明できるコードがあるの？
自分はジャンルの好き嫌いが多い方だ。興味の無いジャンルはそもそも見ない。好きな人らで盛り上がっててくれって思ってる。
オカルト・ホラーは昔から好きじゃなかった。それでも楽しめたStrangerThingsが何故S4で楽しめなくなったのか。それを少しでも知りたくてこれを書いた。imdbやRotten Tomatoを見ればそれなりの評価なので、俺が少数派なんだろう。
だからこそどうやって他人がS4を楽しんだのか楽しめたのかが知りたい。俺が問題だと思った事はみんな問題なんかじゃないしそれどころか楽しい要素だったんだろうか。80年代アメリカンポップカルチャー(音楽・映画)にさほど思い入れ(そもそも見てないから知識も)が無いからなのか？TRPGは大好きだけど、1話でやっただけだしな。話が大きくなってホラー要素が強くなりすぎて、俺にとってnot for meになってしまっただけなのか？
教えてほしい。
インデントにタブを使うかスペースを使うか。いつの時代も戦争の原因になってきたこのトピックに決着が付きそうである。

要するにスペースだと盲目の人が使う点字ディスプレイに無駄なスペースを使ってしまうのでタブの方が良いという理屈だ。さらにタブだと見る人によって幅を変えられるので盲目じゃなくて弱視の人や老眼の人にもアクセシブルであるとそういう理屈だ。
そのうちスペースを使っているだけで差別主義者呼ばわりされることだろう。
