Columbia University acquired the building in 1949, and the building has housed Columbia’s Computer Music Center (then Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center) from the 1950s onwards. During my time there at the Computer Music Center, I have spent my days and nights exploring stimulating sounds using both analog and digital synthesizers, tape recorders, CTR monitors, and other equipments unfamiliar to me back then. Aside from the Computer Music Center, the building also housed studios for visual artists, and so I was able to meet many eccentric artists, where we ended up having long conversations every night on both significant and insignificant issues surrounding us.
Located on 125th Street in Manhattan, the “residents” of Prentis Hall were constantly harassed by the rumblings of the New York City Subway (which runs aboveground for 125th Street Station), the traffic from the highway nearby, the bustling of the streets of New York, and the construction noises from the nearby building sites. At nights, the screeching noises from the metal shop and the wood shop constantly rang throughout the building. At one point in time, the noise inspired me to imagine a gigantic pink elephant running through the narrow corridors of Prentis. In a blink of an eye, the inflated front side split from its pixelated rear, then with a deafening pop, exploded into thin air like a burst balloon. Was told "no foreigners" by a clinic
I just recently moved to a new area in Tokyo, I called a nearby clinic to make a reservation (in Japanese) and pretty quickly into the conversation, the receptionist asked if I could go somewhere else instead. When I asked why, she clearly and blatantly said "they don't take foreigners." I was shocked so I asked again just to make sure I heard right and again she said they don't take foreigners.
When I accused the clinic of discrimination they tried to deny it and claim that "it's difficult to communicate with foreigners," though I've never had that issue at any other Japanese speaking only clinic or hospital.
If this were just a bar or something I'd drop it, but the fact that a CLINIC can blatantly discriminate against patients seems insane to me. I'm not expecting much sadly, but is there anywhere I can report them?
I'm paranoid about just leaving bad reviews because I've seen a first hand case of someone getting sued over one.
UPDATE:
I called a "patient voice" hotline for reporting these sort of things. I explained the situation and they said they would contact the clinic. They later updated me and said they were actually able to talk to the doctor, and he just doubled down and insisted they did nothing wrong because "communication with foreigners is difficult." I also called this government hotline. First they tried to refer me back to the patient voice hotline. After I explained the results from patient voice, they said they are going to determine if it warrants an investigation, which would take 2-3 weeks. They also warned that the clinic is allowed to decline the investigation... so honestly I'm expecting nothing. But they said they would contact me again in 2-3 weeks.

However, she protested her innocence, saying that I hadn't gone to the ball and there was no dress anywhere in the house to prove it.

というか俺は頭の回転が絶望的に遅い
原付の速度で視覚から代わる代わる入って来る情報を処理しきれない上に各判断にクラッチ等の操作が加わり
それがえも言われぬ恐怖感に繋がっているのであろう
自転車の時速20km程度の情報量であれば頭の回転が追いつくのであろう
なんか2週間ぐらい働いた感があるけどまだ3日目、のべ6時間しか乗ってないわけだし早計っちゃ早計なのかもしれんが、いったん原付は諦めて明日から自転車だ
いま働いているのはフルタイム就労に向けての体力養成もあるわけだしむしろ自転車が良かろう
新聞を積んでいない状態で順路を回ってみたら1時間だったが新聞満載の自転車で2時間を切れるのであろうか
う～む果たしてどうなることやら
まあ無理だとしても無理だからこそ鍛錬になるわけだし
自転車で2時間切れるようになったらもう脚力十分、体力的に十分であろう

熊代亨先生、先日梅田ラテラルにて行われた『｢推し｣で心はみたされる？』のトークイベントおつかれでした。せっかくなので感想というか、お手紙を書いてみたいと思います。
私はあの日の観客の一人です。子どもが3人いて最近ラグビー観戦にはまった者といえばわかっていただけるでしょうか。本来ならメールやDMの方が良いのでしょうが、あえてこちらにしました。迷惑だったら申し訳ありません。また、こういった文章に不馴れなので読みにくい点もあるかもしれませんがお許しください。
普段、私はトークイベント等にはほとんど行った事はないのですが、思いきって参加してよかったです。インターネットや著書で知っていても、実際に目の前にすると「遠くから眺めていた人がこんなにも近くにいるぞ」と妙に感慨深いかったです。2時間程度ではありましたが、同じ時間、同じ場所にいられて嬉しく思います。
トークイベントでは新刊のテーマである「推し」について先生や他の参加者の話を聞きながら考えていたのは「ヒトはどこまでいっても社会動物である事実から逃れられない」ということです。今回推しの話から時代ごとの世相の変化、承認欲求と所属欲求の比重の移り変わり、果ては社会福祉までと誰かが無理やり話題を変えた訳でなく自然と話が膨らんでいきました。推しという個人の感情を語ってもどうしても社会に接続されてしまうような、そんな気がしました。ヒトが解脱し娑婆から抜け出す日はまだまだ遠そうです。
私はいま35歳ですが、ラグビーというボールすら触ったことのないスポーツ観戦になぜはまったのかわからないとお話しました。その際先生は自分の心の鍵穴にうまく刺さったのではないかとおっしゃりました。鍵と鍵穴のたとえはいいですね。確かに観戦するという行為が自分の中にするりと入ってきた気がします。鍛え上げた選手達が荒々しくも規律を守って(ペナルティを出さないで)プレーしている姿に心躍らせますが、もしかしたら力のある者が正しく力を行使する様に憧れがあるのかもしれません。実際強いチームはペナルティが少なくスマートにプレーしていますし、それがまた格好良いのです。
一方で家族に対してはどこか一歩引いたような気持ちがあります。少なくとも周りのお父さん達と比べるとどう家族に思い入れが足りないのではと感じます。妻にもたまに文句を言われます。先生はむしろ子ども推しにのめり込みすぎるより全然いいんじゃないかと言ってくれました。思い悩んでいたわけではありませんが、ちょっとほっとするような、励まされた気持ちになりました。
どうして家族をうまく推せないのだろう考えると、私の両親も同じく｢推し｣がへただったからだと思うのです。
両親はとある同じ地方の出身で、父は貧乏農家の三男、母は貧乏大工の娘でした。地方出身の先生ならお分かりでしょうが、50年以上前の農家の三男ともなれば扱いはさんざんなものだったそうです。また幼くして母親(私からみた祖母)を失くしており、ずいぶん寂しい思いをしていたようです。母も自分の親がずいぶん厳しかったようで、成績が少しでも下がろうものならヒステリーと言えるくらいに叱られたと聞いています。
そのせいなのか両親はお互いにうまくリスペクトし合えてなかったし、子どもの立場から見てもナルシシズムを充たすには不十分でありました。社会に出てから子育てをしている人をみて、こんなにも子どもにかかわり合うんだととても驚いたのを覚えています。
無論、大人になった今では両親にとっての精一杯だったのは理解できます。彼らなりに「推し」ていたのだと。
ただ、私は4人きょうだいですが他の3人も親に対してどこか一歩引いているように見えます。もしかしたら私は家族、あるいは血縁という概念にいい感情がないのかもしれません。
実際、妹は結婚していますが、子どもは絶対に作らないと明言しています。自分の遺伝子は残してはならないと考えているようです。実は私もその意見には共感します。もしかしたら子持ちのくせにうっすらとした反出生主義者なのかもしれません。
それでも生まれた命がある以上ちゃんと育てて社会に送り出さなければなりません。幸い、知人や会社の同僚に子ども推しの参考になる人達とたくさん出会えました。なにより妻という心強いパートナーがいます。見よう見まねではありますが、たとえ擬態であっても良き親、良き「推し活」でありたいと思います。
今回のようなトークイベントをまた大阪でされるのかはわかりませんが、いつの日かお目にかかるのを楽しみにしています。短い時間ではありましたが、言葉を交わし合えた者として、ささやかながらこれからも先生を「推し」として応援しています。
